2 Functional Description<br />

The <strong>MX510</strong> and <strong>MX512</strong> Navigation CDU models are generally described in this manual as<br />

MX51x Control and Display Unit (CDU). Their general operating features are identical and<br />

will be described in common details in this manual. Specific model number will be called<br />

in areas where they differ from one another.<br />

CDU Configurations<br />

The <strong>MX510</strong> and <strong>MX512</strong> Navigation System is available in several configurations. Please<br />

refer to the Auxiliary Unit Information section of the manual to view sample screens to<br />

identify your particular model. Described below are the various configurations and their<br />

differences.<br />

Basic CDU configuration<br />

The <strong>MX510</strong> has two (2) bidirectional user NMEA ports while the <strong>MX512</strong> has nine (9)<br />

bidirectional user NMEA ports. Both models have one (1) high-speed Local Area Network<br />

(LAN) port and two USB ports. The basic GPS navigation model includes the CDU and a<br />

smart GPS antenna<br />

Basic <strong>MX510</strong>/512 GPS Configuration<br />

MX51x DGPS<br />

The MX51x DGPS model is supplied with a smart DGPS antenna with built-in Beacon<br />

receiver (MX521A B-10 DGPS). The smart DGPS antenna unit can achieve better than 1<br />

meter accuracy in areas with good beacon differential coverage.<br />

Basic MX51x DGPS Configuration<br />

MX51x/BR<br />

The MX51x/BR configuration is a dual-control system where two MX51x (one operating<br />

as a master and the other as a slave) is supplied. Only one MX521A smart DGPS<br />

antenna is required. The antenna unit is connected only to the master unit. The two<br />

MX51x CDUs communicate via the high-speed LAN port.<br />

LAN port must be setup before enabling this feature. The units can be connected<br />

together using an ethernet crossover cable (when connected directly) or through a hub/<br />

switch/router. See section 4 of this manual for setup details.<br />
