Directions<br />
For this skills evaluation checklist, students will correctly force entry into a structure, given personal<br />
protective equipment, tools, and an assignment,so that the tools are used as designed, the barrier is<br />
removed, and the opening is in a safe condition and ready for entry.<br />
Equipment & Materials<br />
• Full protective clothing • Haligan Tool<br />
• Striking Tool • Outward swinging door or simulator<br />

1. Try before you pry.<br />
<strong>Task</strong> Steps 1 st 2nd<br />
2. FF#1 Place the wedge end of the Haligan tool just above or below the lock.<br />
(if there are two locks, place between the locks)<br />
3. FF#2 Strike the tool using a striking tool in the surface behind the wedge,<br />
driving the wedge into the space between the door and the jamb. (strike<br />
only when FF#1 calls for it)<br />
4. FF#1 Pry down and out with the fork end of the tool making sure the wedge<br />
has been sufficiently driven into the space.<br />
