need for landfill<strong>in</strong>g used totes as the <strong>in</strong>itial<br />

1000 liter (264 gallon) EG premix tote<br />

purchased can cont<strong>in</strong>ue to be refilled<br />

beyond the life of the equipment.<br />

Power Generation<br />

the energy <strong>in</strong> the orig<strong>in</strong>al fuel <strong>is</strong> put to<br />

productive use and total energy sav<strong>in</strong>gs<br />

can be 30 percent or more.<br />

A cogeneration system normally cons<strong>is</strong>ts of<br />

some k<strong>in</strong>d of mach<strong>in</strong>e turn<strong>in</strong>g an alternator<br />

to produce electricity and a waste heat<br />

recovery system captur<strong>in</strong>g the heat from<br />

the exhaust and cool<strong>in</strong>g water jacket.<br />

Cumm<strong>in</strong>s has 430 megawatts (MW)<br />

of cogeneration <strong>in</strong>stallations globally<br />

with an average project size of 2 MW.<br />

<strong>The</strong>se <strong>in</strong>stallations represent a greenhouse<br />

gas reduction of about one million metric<br />

tons of CO 2<br />

per year for our customers.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney,<br />

Australia <strong>is</strong> a recent <strong>in</strong>stallation that uses<br />

CHP to <strong>in</strong>crease efficiency and lower its<br />

carbon footpr<strong>in</strong>t.<br />
