Nearly 16,500 employees worked<br />

130,774 hours on community projects <strong>in</strong><br />

2011 as part of Cumm<strong>in</strong>s’ Every Employee<br />

Every Community (EEEC) program.<br />

Under the EEEC program, the Company<br />

pays for employees to work on community<br />

projects for at least four hours per year.<br />

Employees can work more on company<br />

time with the perm<strong>is</strong>sion of their superv<strong>is</strong>or.<br />

Most of that work <strong>is</strong> done through a<br />

network of more than 200 employee-led<br />

Community Involvement Teams across the<br />

globe. <strong>The</strong>y tackled hundreds of projects<br />

over the course of the year, rang<strong>in</strong>g from<br />

help<strong>in</strong>g Habitat for Humanity build houses<br />

<strong>in</strong> Memph<strong>is</strong>, Tenn., to clean<strong>in</strong>g and pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g<br />

a school <strong>in</strong> Darl<strong>in</strong>gton, U.K., to address<strong>in</strong>g<br />

dangerous traffic situations <strong>in</strong> Dewas, India.<br />

Environmental Challenge<br />

<strong>The</strong> Company has made a special effort<br />

to encourage projects <strong>in</strong> its newest focus<br />

area, the environment. In 2011, Cumm<strong>in</strong>s<br />

held its third Environmental Challenge<br />

to encourage Community Involvement<br />

Teams to leverage the Company’s<br />

environmental expert<strong>is</strong>e to address<br />

community concerns (page 61).<br />

<strong>The</strong> teams competed to be one of 15 to<br />

w<strong>in</strong> $10,000 grants from <strong>The</strong> Cumm<strong>in</strong>s<br />

Foundation that they could then give to<br />

the charitable partner of their choice.<br />

<strong>The</strong> competition drew a record<br />

140 entries from 21 countries, up from<br />

86 entries from 13 countries <strong>in</strong> 2010.<br />

<strong>The</strong> w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g projects ranged from an effort<br />

to save an Indiana school d<strong>is</strong>trict millions<br />

on its utility bills to a project <strong>in</strong> Chongq<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

Ch<strong>in</strong>a that used a Cumm<strong>in</strong>s generator<br />

runn<strong>in</strong>g on landfill gas to generate electricity.<br />

UNITED WAY<br />

Cumm<strong>in</strong>s employees across the Company<br />

pledged a record $2.5 million to the United<br />

Way <strong>in</strong> 2011, with workers <strong>in</strong> Rocky<br />

Mount, N.C. lead<strong>in</strong>g the way <strong>in</strong> employee<br />

participation for a second consecutive year.<br />

N<strong>in</strong>ety percent of the employees at the<br />

Rocky Mount Eng<strong>in</strong>e Plant participated<br />

<strong>in</strong> the United Way pledge drive <strong>in</strong> 2011,<br />

followed by 80 percent of the employees<br />

at Cumm<strong>in</strong>s’ facilities <strong>in</strong> Nashville, Tenn.<br />

and 79 percent of the employees <strong>in</strong><br />

El Paso, Texas.<br />

“We simply have employees who care about<br />

people and those who are less fortunate,”<br />

said Gloria Hicks, Community Relations<br />

Manager for Cumm<strong>in</strong>s at Rocky Mount.<br />

“<strong>The</strong> United Way helps so many people –<br />

the homeless, the abused, the elderly and<br />

youth. And the United Way addresses social<br />

justice <strong>is</strong>sues, too.”<br />

Overall, Cumm<strong>in</strong>s employees <strong>in</strong> North<br />

America pledged an additional $400,000<br />

<strong>in</strong> 2011 – a nearly 20 percent <strong>in</strong>crease<br />

over the $2.1 million pledged <strong>in</strong> 2010.<br />

United Way participation at Cumm<strong>in</strong>s<br />

<strong>is</strong> primarily <strong>in</strong> North America.<br />

Dur<strong>in</strong>g the 2011 campaign, 56 percent<br />

of the eligible Cumm<strong>in</strong>s population<br />

pledged to give to United Way.<br />

Employees have the option to steer<br />

their giv<strong>in</strong>g to a variety of organizations<br />

do<strong>in</strong>g critical work <strong>in</strong> communities.<br />

All participants have the added sat<strong>is</strong>faction<br />

of know<strong>in</strong>g their <strong>in</strong>vestments will double,<br />

due to a dollar-for-dollar match<strong>in</strong>g gift by<br />

<strong>The</strong> Cumm<strong>in</strong>s Foundation to their local<br />

United Ways. That match resulted <strong>in</strong> a<br />

$5 million impact to our communities<br />

<strong>in</strong> 2011.<br />

<strong>The</strong> match<strong>in</strong>g gift program was expanded<br />

outside the United States <strong>in</strong> 2011. Local<br />

match<strong>in</strong>g gift programs were started <strong>in</strong><br />

India, Ch<strong>in</strong>a and the Asia-Pacific region<br />

through <strong>The</strong> Cumm<strong>in</strong>s Foundation and<br />

the Cumm<strong>in</strong>s India Foundation.<br />

Through these programs, Cumm<strong>in</strong>s<br />

employees are able to pledge their<br />

support to organizations that support<br />

their local communities.<br />
