Crossover Main Replacement Horizontal Section Removal When the pipe work was lowered to the floor level, it was clear to see it’s poor condition and the necessity to support the pipe at one-metre intervals. Also as the “gas flow” tests performed prior to the work starting indicated, the pipe cross sectional area was substantially reduced by deposits effecting gas flow through the pipe. 24
Installing the new Crossover Mains Installation of the new horizontal section Prior to the installation of each new horizontal section all the support steelwork was upgraded to ensure good mechanical integrity and extend the life expectancy. The installation process was simply the reverse of the removal process. The new vertical legs were lifted and secured into place, and then the horizontal sections complete with all new service pipe work and expansion joint was lifted into place. Maintaining good visual and radio contact with the crane operator was essential throughout the lift. 25
