New online tool provides a total overview of emissions
Deutsche Bahn (DB), together with the International
Union of Railways (UIC) and six other partners, have
developed EcoTransIT World – an online tool for calculating
emissions from a global transport chain. The tool can
be used to calculate environmentally impacting emissions
within a selected transport chain and also demonstrate
whether it is possible to optimise transport from a financial
and environmental point of view.
EcoTransIT World is the first tool that can calculate
energy use and carbon emissions on a global level using
all modes of transport. The user can enter an optional
number of starting points, destinations and temporary
stops to visualise different transport combinations and
compare emissions. This makes it easier to decide which
transport chain is not only the financially most advantageous
but also which one generates the least impact
on the environment. The tool can also propose a suitable
transport chain based on actual routes. The user states
the starting point and end-point at an optional location in
the world. The tool then proposes the next road, port or
airport, depending on the information provided by the user.
