1137 FLAMMABLE/COMBUSTIBLE LIQUID FIREFIGHTING<br />

<strong>Fire</strong>fighting Curriculum<br />

This resident course uses <strong>Fire</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> props to train students to fight flammable/combustible liquid fires<br />

utilizing various extinguishing agents including water, dry chemicals and foam. Fuel characteristics, containers<br />

types and operational guidelines are covered. Full personal protective equipment (PPE) is required to be provided<br />

by the student. The <strong>Fire</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> will provide SCBAs.<br />

Prerequisite: 1121 or 1152<br />

Hours: 8<br />

Students: Min: 15 Max: 25<br />

Resident Fee: $41 (Includes lunch): in-state - $226, in-state military; $251 out-of-state<br />

Note: On-campus delivery only<br />

1138 PRESSURIZED/COMPRESSED GAS FIREFIGHTING<br />

This resident course will familiarize the student with the nature and effects of flammable gas fires. Container<br />

types, fuel and container characteristics, valve manipulation and terminology are covered, as are tactics and<br />

methods of fire control. Full personal protective equipment (PPE) is required to be provided by the student.<br />

Hours: 6<br />

Students: Min: 15 Max: 20<br />

Resident Fee: $31 (Includes lunch), $25 off-site; Training-in-House with prop, requester pickup $15, without<br />

prop $10; $226 in-state military; $251 out-of-state.<br />

Note: Host department must furnish LP Gas for mobile prop.<br />

1139 RESCUING THE RESCUER<br />

This 20-hour course addresses a number of pressing issues facing today’s firefighter. It provides the basic<br />

knowledge and skills needed to identify when to call a “Mayday,” initiate self-rescue, and/or rescue a fellow<br />

firefighter. The course includes a review of case studies, statistical data, the impact of rescuing a downed firefighter,<br />

and the National <strong>Fire</strong> <strong>Academy</strong>’s “Calling the Mayday” program. The primary focus is to reduce putting<br />

ourselves in these situations, and when it happens, what we need to undertake to survive.<br />

Prerequisite: 1121 or 1152 or 1153 or 4501<br />

Hours: 20<br />

Students: Min: 15 Max: 20<br />

Resident Fee: $25 (Meals and dorm extra)<br />
