3224 ARSON DETECTION FOR FIRST RESPONDERS<br />
Inspection & Investigation<br />
This NFA course provides the definition of the role of initial responders and the knowledge enabling them to<br />
recognize an intentionally set fire, preserve evidence and properly report the information. Topics include: fire<br />
behavior; critical observations; fire causes; scene and evidence security; legal considerations; and reporting.<br />
This course is for those inexperienced in arson detection and evidence preservation. It is not benifical for an<br />
arson-experienced firefighter or inspector.<br />

3226 NFPA FIRE INSPECTOR I<br />
This five-day course is a national certification program for fire inspectors. It is recognized in all 50 states and<br />
in several foreign countries. It is prepared in accordance with NFPA 1031, Standard for Professional Qualifications<br />
for <strong>Fire</strong> Inspector and Plan Examiner. It involves a 40-hour plus classroom session ending with a fourhour<br />
written examination, plus practical field inspections of various occupancies. These practical field inspections<br />
are conducted in the student’s home jurisdiction, accompanied by a member of the CFI-I instructional<br />
team or an employee of the student’s home jurisdiction. The completed inspections are then forwarded to the<br />
S.C. OSFM for review.<br />
Prerequisite: None. However, a pre-course assignment will be sent to each student upon class acceptance that<br />
must be completed before the first day of class.<br />
Hours: 40 plus<br />
Fees: $400 in-state and $475 out-of state/industrial. Fees must be prepaid at time of registration, and are not<br />
refundable after registration cutoff date. (Course registration does not include dorm room or meals.)<br />
Students: Minimum-10, maximum-25<br />
Registration Cut Off: Registration for this course has a 30-day cut off. All registrations must be received 30<br />
days prior to start of course. This allows ample time for the pre-course material to be received and completed.<br />
Textbook Information: Code books are not provided as part of this course. All such books are the responsibility<br />
of the student. Students are responsible for bringing the correct editions of NFPA Codes and Standards<br />
as listed below. The correct books and editions will be verified on the first day of class. NFPA publications<br />
may be purchased from the SCFA at a special discount package price as indicated, if needed.<br />
