3.0 DEFINITIONS<br />

1. Accreditation and Certification<br />

Policies<br />

The SCFA is accredited by the International <strong>Fire</strong> Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC). This international<br />

group is made up of entities from the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, <strong>South</strong> Africa and the<br />

United States Department of Defense, among others. Accreditation guarantees that the SCFA certification<br />

program has been carefully reviewed by a group of fire service professionals and that it meets national and<br />

international standards. The SCFA currently offers accredited certifications meeting NFPA standards in 16 occupational<br />

areas, including:<br />

• <strong>Fire</strong>fighter II<br />

• Driver/Operator - Pumper<br />

• Driver/Operator - Mobile Water Supply<br />

• Driver/Operator - ARFF<br />

• Driver/Operator - Aerial<br />

• Aircraft Rescue <strong>Fire</strong>fighter<br />

• <strong>Fire</strong> Instructor I<br />

• <strong>Fire</strong> Instructor II<br />

• <strong>Fire</strong> Officer I<br />

• <strong>Fire</strong> Officer II<br />

• Hazardous Materials Awareness<br />

• Hazardous Materials Operations<br />

• <strong>Fire</strong> Inspector I<br />

• <strong>Fire</strong> & Life Safety Educator<br />

• Juvenile <strong>Fire</strong> Setter Intervention Specialist I<br />

2. Facilities and Regional Offices<br />

The SCFA is the most comprehensive state fire training facility in the United States. The main campus and<br />

administrative office is located at 141 Monticello Trail, four miles north of exit 68 off Interstate 20. The SCFA<br />

also has six regional offices located as follows:<br />

Region 1 Greenville Regional Office<br />

Region 2 Rock Hill Regional Office at York County <strong>Fire</strong> Training Site<br />

Region 3/4 Florence Regional Office<br />

Region 5 Charleston Regional Office<br />

Region 6 Columbia Regional Office at the SCFA<br />

Region 7 Greenwood Regional Office<br />

3. Publications<br />

Public <strong>Fire</strong> Service Curriculum Catalog - This annual course catalog lists all courses offered to<br />

the public fire service, regardless of the method of delivery. Detailed descriptions of courses, prerequisites,<br />

class sizes and course fees. Information regarding the instructor program are included along with general policies<br />

and course listings for training and certification.<br />

Public <strong>Fire</strong> Service Course Dates – Schedule of courses to be delivered as resident and regional<br />

courses (course catalog) is published two times each year: Jan. 1 through June 30 and July 1 through Dec. 31.<br />
