1176 PIPELINE EMERGENCIES<br />

<strong>Fire</strong>fighting Curriculum<br />

This course is designed for emergency responders from public safety and other safety organizations and will<br />

benefit fire and rescue personnel, members of hazardous materials response teams and industrial emergency<br />

response teams. Parts of this course will also be of interest to emergency management personnel. This course<br />

covers how to respond safely and effectively to pipeline incidents and emergencies. Topics covered include:<br />

primary regulations and standards governing operations and design of pipeline systems, common products<br />

found in pipelines, along with physical and chemical properties and tactical procedures for pipeline response<br />

Several pipeline response scenarios will be conducted during this course.<br />

Prerequisite: 1121 or 1152 or equivalent training preferred or 4501, but not required<br />

1177 RESPONDING TO UTILITY EMERGENCIES<br />

This course provides a “Street Smart Approach” for emergency first responders who must respond to utility<br />

emergencies. Topics in this course include: the need for utility company response, most common utility hazards,<br />

response issues and the hazards associated with electric and gas generations, transmission and distribution.<br />

Several case histories will be reviewed during class.<br />

8118 POSITIVE PRESSURE VENTILATION (PPV)<br />

This course consists of a review of basic ventilation practices, implementation and fire attack considerations. It<br />

includes both classroom and field work, consisting of practical skills evolutions and a demonstration using positive<br />

pressure ventilation.<br />

Prerequisite: None<br />

Hours: 6<br />

Students: Min: 15 Max: 30<br />

Fee: $5<br />

Note: The host fire department must furnish at least two PPV fans.<br />
