The Academy’s relationship, for most courses is with the fire chief for the student approved to attend the
course, whether a paid employee or a volunteer. Payment is made by the fire department and is responsible
for any costs and expenses incurred by the student. All participants, attendees, instructors; staff involved with
SCFA training are expected to abide by SCFA guidlines at all times. If a problem occurs with a student, the fire
chief will be notified. If the chief is unavailable, disciplinary action up to and including dismissal may be taken
and the chief notified as soon as possible. For the “Open Enrollment” program, the SCFA will deal directly
with the student. For the “ Explorer” program, the SCFA will deal with the student (minor) and the BSA
Explorer post leader.
The SCFA reserves the right to modify these guidelines/best practices at any time to maintain the mission of
providing the highest level of training in the safest and most efficient manner. Students will be notified of any
change that affects their attendance or participation.
The SCFA offers an “Open Enrollment” program (see AG-033) for non-fire service personel. See section 5.1.3
on page 9.
Policies
The SCFA also offers a “Learning for Life Exploring Program” for 16 and 17 year old (see AG-007) that is provided
to members the a Boy Scouts of America Exploring Post. See section 5.1.2 on page 8.
