Inspection & Investigation Curriculum<br />
Electronic, online, and handbook versions of these manuals are not permitted for this course. The IFSTA <strong>Fire</strong><br />
Inspection and Code Enforcement Manual (7th edition) and Study Guide are included in the course fee. They<br />
will be mailed upon acceptance in the course. The pre-course assignment, prior to the first day of class, must<br />
be read and completed.<br />
Application Procedure: Students must complete the SCFA Registration Form and the NFPA Certified <strong>Fire</strong><br />
Inspector I Application and submit them to the Resident Registrar, at least 30 days prior to start of class.<br />
Retest Procedure: If a student fails to achieve a minimum score of 70 on the final examination, the student<br />
must schedule a retest by completing the Certified <strong>Fire</strong> Inspector I Retest Application and submitting it to the<br />
OSFM training coordinator. The fee for the retest is $75 and must be paid prior to taking the retest. If the student<br />
does not achieve a minimum score of 70 on the retest, the student must retake the entire course. The<br />
cost for retaking the course is the same as the original registration.<br />
3228 NFPA PLANS EXAMINER I<br />
This four-day course is a national certification program designed to equip the student with the skills necessary<br />
to conduct a successful plan review of fire-related systems and components. It is recognized in all 50<br />
states and in several foreign countries. It is prepared in accordance with NFPA 1031, Standard for Professional<br />
Qualifications for <strong>Fire</strong> Inspector and Plan Examiner. It involves a 24-hour plus classroom session ending with a<br />
four-hour written examination, plus a practical phase that includes five required plan reviews. These practical<br />
plan reviews are conducted in the student’s home jurisdiction and submitted for review to the S.C. OSFM.<br />
Inspection & Investigation<br />
Prerequisite: None. NFPA Certified <strong>Fire</strong> Inspector I (Course 3226) is recommended. However, a pre-course<br />
assignment will be sent to each student upon class acceptance which must be completed before first day of<br />
class.<br />
Hours: 28 plus<br />
Fees: $375 in-state and $450 out-of state/industrial. Fees must be prepaid at time of registration, and are not<br />
refundable after registration cutoff date. (Course registration does not include dorm room or meals)<br />
Students: Minimum-10, maximum-25<br />
Registration Cut Off: Registration for this course has a 30-day cut off. All registrations must be received 30<br />
days prior to start of course. This allows time for the pre-course material to be received and completed.<br />
Textbook Information: Code books are not provided as part of this course. All such books are the responsibility<br />
of the student. Students are responsible for bringing the correct editions of NFPA Codes and Standards<br />
as listed below. The correct books and editions will be verified on the first day of class. NFPA publications<br />
may be purchased from the SCFA at a special discount package price as indicated, if needed.<br />
