Agriculture and Rural Development<br />

Division (ARDD)<br />

As the name indicates, the Agriculture and Rural<br />

Development Division (ARDD) is the home<br />

of research and other activities pertaining to<br />

agriculture, natural resources management,<br />

environment and climate change issues,<br />

development of rural nonfarm activities and<br />

rural infrastructure, and other broader issues<br />

of rural development. Many of the activities of<br />

the Division relate to identifying the challenges<br />

of sustainable food security and nutrition and<br />

promoting policy options within the broader<br />

frameworks of ensuring livelihood security of the<br />

country’s rural population. In view of the broad<br />

nature and the prime importance of the rural<br />

sector in the country, recent analytical research of<br />

ARDD provides a broad canvass covering key areas<br />

such as rural poverty dynamics and monitoring<br />

poverty process, employment and labor market<br />

issues, microcredit and financial inclusiveness,<br />

land market and tenancy reforms, productivity<br />

growth and agricultural diversification, noncrop<br />

agriculture and nonfarm activities, rural<br />

infrastructure development, and climate change<br />

impacts.<br />

General Economics Division (GED)<br />

The focus of the activities of the General Economics<br />

Division (GED) relates to macroeconomic issues<br />

including stability and growth; fiscal, monetary,<br />

and related policy framework; external sector<br />

developments; and analyzing the framework<br />

of inclusive development. The recent research<br />

activities have covered wide areas on issues<br />

of macroeconomic management including<br />

assessing the impact of the global economic crisis,<br />

nexus between monetary and fiscal policies for<br />

development, creating sustainable livelihoods,<br />

analyzing human development and assessing<br />

progress toward MDGs, regional cooperation<br />

issues, and analyzing the dynamics of chronic<br />

poverty.<br />

Human Resources Development<br />

Division (HRDD)<br />

The activities of the Human Resources<br />

Development Division (HRDD) center around<br />

promoting human development in a broad sense<br />

covering all dimensions including education,<br />

health, nutrition, gender, social inclusion and<br />

empowerment, and poverty dimensions in human<br />
