Nazneen Ahmed<br />
Senior Research Fellow<br />
Dr. Nazneen Ahmed received a Ph.D. in Economics<br />
from the University of Wageningen, Masters in<br />
Development Economics from the University of<br />
Sussex, and Masters and Bachelors in Economics<br />
from University of Dhaka. She joined <strong>BIDS</strong> in<br />
1998. Dr. Ahmed has specialization in conducting<br />
research in the areas of international trade<br />
and regional trade issues; value chain analysis,<br />
general equilibrium modeling; and institutional,<br />
industrial and labor issues. She has also worked<br />
as a consultant for national and international<br />
organizations. Currently, she is working as a Senior<br />
Research Fellow of <strong>BIDS</strong>.<br />
Kazi Jahid Hossain<br />
Research Fellow<br />
Kazi Jahid Hossain obtained his B.A. (Honours) and<br />
M.A. in Economics from the University of Dhaka in<br />
1967 and 1968 respectively. He obtained M.Sc. in<br />
Demography in 1977 from the London School of<br />
Economics. His areas of interest are population,<br />
health and education. He worked as a Research<br />
Fellow of <strong>BIDS</strong> and retired in December 2008.<br />
Mohammad Sohail<br />
Research Fellow<br />
Mr. Mohammad Sohail received his B.A.<br />
(Honours) and M.A. in Economics in 1972 and<br />
1973 respectively from Dhaka University. He<br />
obtained an M.A. in Sociology from the University<br />
of Michigan in 1975. He joined <strong>BIDS</strong> in 1973 as a<br />
Staff Demographer. His current areas of interest<br />
in research include population studies, health,<br />
poverty and gender. Currently, he is working as a<br />
Research Fellow of <strong>BIDS</strong>.<br />
Serajul Islam Laskar<br />
Research Fellow<br />
After completing his M.A. in Economics, Mr.<br />
S.I. Laskar joined <strong>BIDS</strong> in 1973. He obtained<br />
an M.A. in Demography from the University of<br />
Pennsylvania in 1975 and an M.A. in Economics<br />
from the University of Hawaii in 1990. Mr. Laskar<br />
has worked in different international organizations<br />
including UNDP and ADB. His research interests<br />
include macroeconomics, population and<br />
development, urbanization and migration, human<br />
resources development (education and health),<br />
gender issues and development, environmental<br />
sustainability, role of ICT in development, and<br />
governance and corruption issues. Currently, he is<br />
working as a Research Fellow of <strong>BIDS</strong>.<br />
Narayan Chandra Nath<br />
Research Fellow<br />
Dr. Narayan Chandra Nath obtained his Ph.D. in<br />
Industrial Economics from the Institute of National<br />
Economy, Baku in 1978. He worked as a Visiting<br />
Fellow and did postdoctoral research work on<br />
international trade at the University of Strathclyde in<br />
Glasgow during 1993/94. He has carried out several<br />
research studies in the areas of industry, international<br />
trade, poverty, employment, human resources<br />
development, financial market and tourism. He<br />
has a number of research publications to his credit.<br />
Currently, he is working as a Research Fellow of <strong>BIDS</strong>.<br />
Md. Mizanur Rahman<br />
Research Fellow<br />
Mr. Mizanur Rahman obtained an M.Sc. in<br />
Statistics from Dhaka University in 1973, and<br />
received an M. Phil in Economics from Cambridge<br />
University in 1981. His areas of research interest<br />
include mathematical economics and statistics,<br />
econometrics, and internal migration. Currently,<br />
he is working as a Research Fellow of <strong>BIDS</strong>.<br />
Salma Chaudhuri Zohir<br />
Research Fellow<br />
Dr. Salma Chaudhuri Zohir received an M.A. in<br />
Economics from the University of Dhaka in 1979<br />
and a Diploma in Economics from the University<br />
of Colorado in 1981. Later on, she received M.A.<br />
in Development Economics from the Williams<br />
College in 1982 and Ph.D. in Economics from the<br />
University of Manchester in 1998. Her research<br />
interest covers areas of employment, gender and<br />
development, industry, environmental concerns,<br />
and economic and social issues especially in<br />
<strong>BIDS</strong> Biennial Report <strong>2009</strong>-<strong>2010</strong> 59
