Karimullah Bhuiyan<br />

Research Fellow<br />

Mr. Karimullah Bhuiyan obtained his M.Sc. in<br />

Statistics from the University of Dhaka in 1970<br />

and joined <strong>BIDS</strong> in 1972. In 1976, he received a<br />

diploma in National Economic Planning from<br />

Poland, and received a graduate degree in law from<br />

Dhaka University in 1980. He obtained his M.Sc. in<br />

Industrialization, Trade and Economic Policy from<br />

the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow in 1996.<br />

He completed a course on Demography at the<br />

Institute of Statistical Research and Training, Dhaka,<br />

and another course on Entrepreneurship at SIET,<br />

Hyderabad. Mr. Bhuiyan has been involved in a large<br />

number of studies in the field of rural industries,<br />

small and large industries, poverty alleviation, food<br />

policy and distribution, crop diversification, fish<br />

culture, irrigation, water management and sick<br />

industries in Bangladesh. He is currently working<br />

as a Research Fellow in <strong>BIDS</strong>.<br />

Md. Salimullah<br />

Research Fellow<br />

Dr. Md. Salimullah obtained his M.Sc. in Statistics<br />

from the University of Dhaka in 1969. Later on,<br />

he received M.Sc. in Industrialization, Trade and<br />

Economic Policy (ITEP) in 1996 and Ph. D. in<br />

Economics in 1998 from the University of Strathclyde,<br />

Glasgow. He also obtained Postgraduate Diploma in<br />

National Economic Planning from National School<br />

of Planning and Statistics, Warsaw in 1974 and<br />

training in Small Industry Management Consultancy<br />

from SIET, Hyderabad in 1978. His main research<br />

interest includes modeling for development policy,<br />

trade, rural industrialization, poverty alleviation,<br />

education and forecasting model using extended<br />

input-output analysis. Currently, he is working as a<br />

Research Fellow of <strong>BIDS</strong>.<br />

ABM Shamsul Islam<br />

Research Fellow<br />

Mr. ABM Shamsul Islam passed M.Sc. in<br />

Statistics from Dhaka University in 1969.<br />

Later on, he completed a Postgraduate<br />

Course in Economic Development and<br />

Planning from the Institute for Studies on<br />

Economic Development (ISVE), Naples in 1977-<br />

78. His current areas of interests are ageing<br />

population, pension scheme and social safety<br />

nets, population development and international<br />

migration. He is now working as a Research Fellow<br />

of <strong>BIDS</strong>.<br />

Wajid Hasan Shah<br />

Research Fellow<br />

Mr. Wajid Hasan Shah obtained Master’s in<br />

Economics from the University of Missouri, Columbia<br />

and a Bachelor’s from Truman State University with<br />

a major in Economics and a minor in Mathematics.<br />

He completed MBA in Development Management<br />

with an emphasis on Governance and WTO issues<br />

from the Institute of Business Administration under<br />

the University of Dhaka. His major areas of research<br />

interest include foreign investment and financial<br />

markets, with particular emphasis on the stock<br />

market. His interests also encompass gender issues,<br />

privatization, governance, NGOs, environmental<br />

and health economics. Currently, he is working as<br />

a Research Fellow of <strong>BIDS</strong>.<br />

Monzur Hossain<br />

Research Fellow<br />

Dr. Monzur Hossain obtained his Ph.D. in<br />

International Economics from the National Graduate<br />

Institute for Policy studies (GRIPS), Tokyo in 2007,<br />

and Master’s in Public Policy from the same Institute<br />

in 2003. He joined <strong>BIDS</strong> as a Research Fellow in 2008.<br />

He has published a good number of articles both<br />

in domestic and international academic journals.<br />

His primary areas of interest include<br />

macroeconomics, exchange rate, FDI, remittance,<br />

trade, banking and financial sector development.<br />

He has also interests in the ICT sector, SME<br />

development and mobile phone issues.<br />

Minhaj Mahmud<br />

Research Fellow<br />

Dr. Minhaj Mahmud received his Ph.D. in<br />

Economics from the University of Gothenburg in<br />
