32 Aquatics Continued LIFE GUARDING Red Cross certification course includes CPR, First Aid, AED, Lifeguard Training, and Waterfront Lifeguard Training. Pre-requisite: Must be 15 years old by June 16, 2014 (Need to be 16 to get a lifeguarding job) Must pass pre-course requirements: Swim continuously for 550 yards- of that 200 yards front crawl, 200 yards breaststroke, and 150 yards of either front crawl or breaststroke; in 1 minute 40 seconds swim 20 yards; surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound brick, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point; and swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve 3 rings placed 5 yards apart in 4-7 feet of water, and swim 5 yards back to side. It is open to those entering 12th grade or younger and who can complete one length of a 25-yard pool of any stroke. To be certified as a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor the student must do the following -successfully complete the pre-course requirements, attend and successfully participate in all course sessions, successfully complete the required number of practice-teaching assignments, and score at least 80% on the final instructor course written exam. Students must also demonstrate throughout the course that they are mature and responsible. Pre-requisite: Must be 16 years old by August 11, 2014. 25 yards front crawl, 25 yards back crawl, 25 yards sidestroke, 25 yards breaststroke, 25 yards elementary backstroke, and 15 yards butterfly, back float or scull for 1 minute in deep water, and tread water for 1 minute. TENNIS 33 YOUTH TENNIS Tennis creates fun, fitness and friendships for life. The M-T summer recreation tennis program will be directed by USPTA professionals from Mequon Elite Sports Club. Local high school and college kids will assist in teaching the lessons. Location: Water: Wet Courts: Homestead High School Tennis Courts unless noted. Please park, drop-off, and pick-up in the parking lot west of the tennis courts. All students are asked to bring water to each class. Classes canceled because of wet courts will not be rescheduled. Participants may attend a class the following session. The QuickStart tennis format is a key component in the progressive development of a tennis player. QuickStart is tennis scaled down to the size and age of a player. There are six standard variables that are changed for the player: age, court size, balls, racquet length, net height, and scoring. QuickStart tennis gives kids the opportunity to rally a ball over the net and play points and games as quickly as possible in a fun environment. QuickStart Tiny Tots (ages 3-4): Introduction to pre-tennis skills; gross motor skills; tennis basics and fun! Students must provide their own racquet. Racquets will be available for students who forget their racquets.
