52 Youth Sports Continued HIGHLANDER SOCCER CAMP The emphasis of this soccer camp will be on technical training. Players will be challenged to improve ball possession, ball control, 1v1 moves, finishing, and passing. The art of properly striking the ball with both feet will be stressed. These skills will be developed through fundamental training, small-sided games, and game related activities. All soccer enthusiasts are encouraged to attend regardless of ability. The high school philosophy of improving as individuals and as players will be promoted. The priority is to have a positive camp experience, learn about the world’s game, develop soccer skills and proper technique, and strive for excellence in all that we do. Gender: Boys and Girls Location: Homestead H.S. Soccer Field Date: Monday – Friday, June 23 – 27 Fee: Resident $53/Non-Resident $63 Equipment: Shinguards & Water bottle Instructors: Rich Dorn, Homestead H.S. Boys and Girls Varsity Soccer Coach, guest instructors, and current as well as former Highlander players will provide instruction. Grade: Entering Grades 6 – 9 Time: 9:00am – 11:00am Course #: 317151 Grade: Entering Grades 2 – 5 Time: 1:00pm – 3:00pm Course #: 317152 HOMESTEAD YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUE AND SKILL SESSIONS Saturday morning soccer will begin with a warm-up and skill session focusing on dribbling, passing, and shooting followed by a game. Homestead coaches and players will direct this program. Come kick the ball around on Saturday mornings on the Varsity soccer field located behind the tennis courts at HHS. Each player will receive a T-shirt. WE CAN NOT TAKE MORE THAN THE MAXIMUM LISTED. Incoming K-1st Grade: There will be a 20-minute practice followed by a 30-minute game each Saturday. Play will be COED 3 on 3. Incoming 2nd & 3rd Grade: There will be a 20-minute practice followed by a 30-minute game each Saturday. Play will be COED 3 on 3. Incoming 4th & 5th Grade: There will be a 30-minute practice followed by a 50-minute game each Saturday. Play will be COED 5 on 5. Youth Sports Continued 53 FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE (Kindergarten-5th Grade) The M-T Recreation department will again be sponsoring a flag football league this fall for grades kindergarten through fifth grade. This is a very popular program!! There is no limit to the number of participants who register by the AUGUST 1 deadline. Three divisions will be created: Kindergarten & 1st graders, 2nd & 3rd graders, and 4th & 5th graders. When registering your child, please list height and weight. K-1st Grade: Practices and games will take place on Saturday mornings at Steffen Middle School. There will be a 30-minute practice followed by a 45-minute game each Saturday. All games and practices will take place at Steffen Middle School. 2nd & 3rd Grade: There will be two Thursday evening practices on August 28th and September 4th (times to be announced). There will be a 30-minute practice followed by a 60-minute game each Saturday. All games and practices will take place at Steffen Middle School. 4th & 5th Grade: Same structure as 2nd and 3rd grade. Teams will be coached by parent volunteers. For those interested in coaching, please state your interest on the registration form. There will be a coaches meeting on Tuesday, August 19th, 2014, at 6:00pm for K-1st grade and 7:00pm for 2nd – 5th Grade in Range Line Conference Room. All coaches MUST attend the coaches meeting. Coaching assignments will be sent out one week prior to the meeting. Officials Needed: High school age students are hired to officiate games. If you have an interest in officiating flag football, please contact the M-T Recreation Office at 262-238-7536.
