Feb 26 - Officials of the Transitional Federal Government of <strong>Somalia</strong> [TFG] police force have<br />

cautioned government forces against harassment of civilians in areas they capture from the<br />

opposition in Mogadishu.<br />

The spokesman for the Somali police, Abdullahi Hasan Barise, told the media that government<br />

forces were expected to look after civilian property and warned that stern action would be taken<br />

against anyone found to be harassing members of the public.<br />

TFG police stands accused of harassing and robbing of civilians in parts of the capital under their<br />

control.<br />

Feb 25– The United Nations today voiced alarm over the plight of Somali civilians caught up in<br />

the fighting pitting forces of the country‘s transitional government, who are backed by African<br />

Union peacekeepers, against insurgents of the Al-Shabaab armed group.<br />

Some 300 Somalis fleeing the fighting have crossed the border into Kenya over the past few<br />

days, Melissa Fleming, spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR),<br />

told reporters in Geneva.<br />

―We have received reports from them of many injuries. Other civilians, including women, children<br />

and the elderly, remain trapped and unable to reach safety,‖ she said, voicing concern over what<br />

the agency said appears to be a coordinated offensive against Al-Shabaab militants on multiple<br />

fronts, namely in the capital, Mogadishu; Beled Weyne in Hiiraan region; and Beled Hawo in the<br />

Gedo region.<br />

Feb 23 - Somali government forces backed by African Union troops on Wednesday launched a<br />

fresh offensive against Al Qaeda-inspired rebels, leaving at least 50 people dead nationwide,<br />

witnesses said.<br />

"We have counted at least 20 civilians killed," Ali Muse, head of the Mogadishu ambulance<br />

service said.<br />

Residents spoke of one dead insurgent in the capital and several said Shebab fighters had also<br />

displayed five bodies they said were dead Burundian soldiers from the African Union (AMISOM)<br />

force, bringing the toll for the capital to 26.<br />

12 Killed in Continued Clashes in Mogadishu<br />

Feb 22 - At least 12 people have been killed in latest wave of violence that rocked different parts<br />

of Mogadishu, witnesses and medics said. In the restive capital of Mogadishu, fierce shelling and<br />

gun battles erupted on Monday and continued into Tuesday in the northern neighborhoods of<br />

Hodan, Hawlwadag and Bondhere.<br />
