A trader in Bakara market, the biggest in the country, said: "Since 3pm yesterday [23 August] we
have not had a break from the shelling. As I am speaking to you two shells landed nearby."
She did not say who had shelled whom but deadly exchanges of mortar fire between al-Shabab
insurgents and troops of the 6,000-strong AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) are frequent in the
city.
"We had no warning; they just started shelling when the market was full of people buying stuff to
break the [Ramadan] fast," she said.

August 23: The Transitional federal government of Somalia, have accused Al Shabaab militants
of killing civilians in Mogadishu shelling, on Monday.
More than 15 people died and at least 80 injured in mortar attacks fired by Al-Shabaab towards
civilian-populated areas, says statement released by the Ministry of Information.
One of their mortars hit a camp for internally displaced people in Mogadishu.
The government accused Al-Shabaab spokesperson for publicly declaring war against the Somali
people and government on Monday.
This shows their lack of regards for the holy month of Ramadan. It is against Islamic religion and
Somali culture to fight against another Somali, says the press release by the Ministry of
Information.
The Somali Government condemns the attacks and loss of civilians.

August 19: At least two people have been killed 4 others wounded after heavy shelling targeted
to a displaced camps in parts of the Somali capital Mogadishu, witnesses said on Thursday.

Witnesses said that several mortars had landed at the displaced camps in Hoga hospital in
Hodan district around 5:00 pm, killing two of the civilians, injuring several others adding that it
was unclear where the shellfire from.
A teenager died and three others wounded around the universities in the capital when a stray
mortar landed as the teenagers were playing football there in Mogadishu.
The emergency traffic officials said they took 7 civilians to hospitals in the capital as the mortars
continued in different areas in Mogadishu.
It is unclear the main reason of the mortars and it comes as there had no been any clashes
continued in war zones of Mogadishu today.
8 of the displaced civilians around Digfer hospital had been killed while more than 20 others
wounded as mortars targeted to camps where those civilians were homing before 2 nights.
