Go to the Compute option (Dialog box 36). Type age in the Target Variable<br />

box. The Numeric Expression is TRUNC(CT.DAYS(period-dob))/365. Click OK<br />

<strong>and</strong> a new column will appear in the data file containing the ages of the<br />

participants.<br />

Count<br />

With this option you can count the number of occurrences of a particular value<br />

across the different variables of the same case (individual) (Dialog box 37).<br />

Suppose you want to find out how many different sports are practised <strong>by</strong> a<br />

sample of pupils. In an available list of five sports (variables), type 1 if they<br />

practise a particular sport <strong>and</strong> 0 if they do not practise it. You want to find out<br />

how many different sports each pupil (case) practises. In other words, you want<br />

to find out how many 1s each pupil has reported. Count creates a new column<br />
