ACCREDITATION: Accreditation is the establishment of the status, legitimacy or appropriateness<br />
of an <strong>in</strong>stitution, program or module of study.<br />
ACCREDITATION BODY: An accreditation body is an organisation delegated to make decisions,<br />
on behalf of the higher education sector, about the status, legitimacy or appropriateness of<br />
an <strong>in</strong>stitution, or program.<br />
ACCREDITATION MILL: Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learn<strong>in</strong>g (APEL): APEL is the <strong>for</strong>mal<br />
acknowledgement (based on professional assessment) of learn<strong>in</strong>g acquired from previous<br />
experience, usually from experience unrelated to an academic context.<br />
Accreditation of Prior Learn<strong>in</strong>g (APL): Formal acknowledgement (based on professional assessment),<br />
by way of grant<strong>in</strong>g credit, of students’ previous learn<strong>in</strong>g: credit is given towards a<br />
program of study or towards professional body accreditation.<br />
ACCREDITATION DURATION: Accreditation decisions are usually limited to a fixed and stated<br />
