2000-01 season review<br />

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS<br />

• The <strong>Sharks</strong> advanced to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for a franchise-record fourth<br />

consecutive season and became just the fifth franchise in <strong>NHL</strong> history to improve<br />

its point total for the fifth consecutive season, setting franchise records for wins<br />

(40) and points (95).<br />

• The <strong>Sharks</strong> finished with the sixth-best road record in the <strong>NHL</strong> (fourth-best in the<br />

Western Conference) and set a franchise record with a 10-game unbeaten streak<br />

on the road.<br />

• G Evgeni Nabokov received the Calder Memorial Trophy as the <strong>NHL</strong>’s Rookie of<br />

the Year. “Nabby” set new franchise records for wins (32), goals-against average<br />

(2.19) and shutouts (six) en route to being named the “<strong>Sharks</strong> Player of the Year”<br />

and the PlayStation “<strong>Sharks</strong> Rookie of the Year.” He was named to the <strong>NHL</strong>’s 2001<br />

World All-Star Team, <strong>NHL</strong> Rookie of the Month for November and December and<br />

“<strong>Sharks</strong> Player of the Month” for October and December. He’s also the first <strong>NHL</strong><br />

goaltender to reach 20 victories on the season.<br />

• C Vincent Damphousse became the 58th <strong>NHL</strong> player to score 1,000 points when<br />

he assists on LW Marco Sturm’s goal on Oct. 14 vs. Boston.<br />

• D Gary Suter became the 153rd <strong>NHL</strong> player to appear in 1,000 games on Oct. 25<br />

at Columbus. He also scored <strong>San</strong> <strong>Jose</strong>’s first goal in a 3-1 win.<br />

• Acquired D Jeff Norton from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for D Bobby<br />

Dollas and G Johan Hedberg, March 12, 2001.<br />

• Acquired LW Bill Lindsay from the Calgary Flames in exchange for an eighth<br />

round pick (233rd overall, previously acquired from Minnesota) in the 2001 <strong>NHL</strong><br />

Entry Draft, March 6, 2001.<br />

• Acquired RW Teemu Selanne from Anaheim in exchange for LW Jeff Friesen, G<br />

Steve Shields and a second round selection (36th overall) in the 2003 <strong>NHL</strong> Entry<br />

Draft, March 3, 2001.<br />

• Signed free agent D Bobby Dollas, Nov. 4, 2000.<br />
