A YEAR TO REMEMBER<br />

The 2008-09 Worcester <strong>Sharks</strong> set club records by winning 42 games and allowing 223 goals. They also<br />

advanced to the second round of the postseason for the first time in their three-year history. In addition, Worcester<br />

had a team-record 11 players promoted to the <strong>San</strong> <strong>Jose</strong> <strong>Sharks</strong>.<br />

A FANTASTIC FINISH<br />

Worcester concluded the road portion of their regular season schedule by winning five straight away from<br />

the DCU Center. The <strong>Sharks</strong> picked up victories at Bridgeport, Providence, Springfield, Albany and Manchester.<br />

A HOT TICKET<br />

Worcester set a franchise record by having 7,406 fans <strong>com</strong>e to the DCU Center to watch the <strong>Sharks</strong> take on<br />

Providence on April 11.<br />

A MEMORABLE AHL ALL-STAR CLASSIC<br />

On Jan. 25-26, 2009, the Worcester <strong>Sharks</strong> played hosts to the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic. The event was the<br />

first time the Commonwealth of Massachusetts was the home of the mid-season classic in 50 years. Defenseman<br />

Derek Joslin and right wing Ryan Vesce represented the <strong>Sharks</strong>. Before a capacity crowd of 7,245, Planet USA<br />

defeated the Canadian All-Stars, 14-11, in the highest scoring all-star game in AHL history.<br />

NEVER SAY NEVER<br />

The 2008-09 Worcester <strong>Sharks</strong> became just the 20th team in American Hockey League playoff history to<br />

over<strong>com</strong>e a 2-0 deficit to win their playoff series. Worcester rallied to eliminate the Hartford Wolf Pack in six<br />

games of their Atlantic Division semifinal series.<br />

THE DEAN OF THE BENCH BOSSES<br />

Head Coach Roy Sommer <strong>com</strong>pleted his 11th consecutive year behind the bench of an American Hockey<br />

League team. In 2009-10, he’ll begin his 12th year behind an AHL team bench — making him the longest<br />

tenured head coach in the “A.”<br />
