General Admissions Policy
The admissions policy and procedures of the State Board of
Technical and Adult Education and Oconee Fall Line Technical
College assure the citizens of Georgia equal access to the
opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes
necessary for them to secure personally satisfying and socially
productive employment.
In accordance with the Statement of Equal Opportunity, Oconee
Fall Line Technical College (OFTC) does not discriminate on
the basis of race, color, creed, national or ethnic origin, gender,
religion, disability, age, political affiliation or belief, disabled
veteran, veteran of the Vietnam Era or citizenship status (except
in those special circumstances permitted or mandated by law).
OFTC is committed to an “open door” admissions policy. The
“open door” policy means that any qualified applicant able to
benefit from our curriculum will be served by the College on a
first-applied, first-qualified basis.
Entrance requirements are flexible enough to allow a student
opportunity for admission into a specific program. This can be
accomplished when the student demonstrates aptitude and ability
for these programs as determined by satisfactory academic
performance, placement tests, and other appropriate evaluations,
when deemed necessary, to determine general fitness for
admission.
The president of the College may waive the GED/high school
diploma requirement for those secondary students or those
pursuing a GED who are otherwise eligible to enroll in a specific
program of study.
Eligible Applicants
Any individual 16 years of age or older who seeks access to
quality instruction designed to develop or improve occupational
competencies is eligible for admission. The president of the
College may waive the “16 years of age” requirement for
secondary students who are participating in an articulated
program of study.
Required Academic Criteria
A General Education Diploma (GED) or high school diploma
(verified by an official transcript including graduation date and
otherwise specified by the program’s standards. High school
diplomas from unaccredited institutions, Certificates of Attendance
or special education diplomas are not recognized for admission
purposes. Home school students may follow an alternative
path for admissions, described below. Students with diplomas
from secondary schools located outside the United States must
all previously attended colleges accredited by an accepted
accrediting agency in lieu of a GED or high school diploma.
In order to be accepted by OFTC, the applicant must have
been awarded a high school diploma from a secondary school
that is on the Technical College System of Georgia approved
accreditation agency list. Graduates of unaccredited high schools
and applicants with certificates of attendance or special education
diplomas must obtain a GED.
Applicants of home schools located in Georgia who did not attend
a recognized accredited program must adhere to the following
alternative path for admission:
• Submit a letter from the local superintendent’s office
verifying that (1) the parent or legal guardian notified the
superintendent of intent to home school and (2) that the
parent or legal guardian submitted the required attendance
reports to the superintendent’s office on a monthly basis as
required by O.C.G.A. § 20-2-690.
• Submit annual progress reports or a final transcript for
the equivalent of the home-schooled student’s junior and
senior years. The final progress report should include the
graduation date.
Applicants of home schools located outside the state of Georgia
who did not attend a recognized accredited program must adhere
to the following alternative path for admission:
1. Submit annual progress reports or a final transcript for
the equivalent of the home-schooled student’s junior and
senior years. The final progress report should include the
graduation date.
minimum requirements..
Admissions Procedures
Applicants are processed and the names of applicants are placed
on a list of programs on a first-come, first-served priority, except
in competitive admission programs. Because of the increasing
demand for technical training, the chances of being accepted in
the desired program are better if a student applies early.
Admission steps include:
1. Submit a completed application and the $20.00 application
fee.
2. Submit an official copy of your high school transcript or GED
transcript to the Admissions Office. (Transcript request forms
are available in the Admissions Office.)
3. Submit an official copy of all postsecondary transcripts to the
Admissions Office. (Transcript request forms are available in
the Admissions Office.)
