In order to receive and maintain services, a student with a<br />
disability must:<br />
• Be o<strong>the</strong>rwise qualified for admission to or participation<br />
in a program <strong>of</strong> study with or without a reasonable<br />
accommodation.<br />
• Disclose (notify) and provide <strong>the</strong> appropriate documentation<br />
to <strong>the</strong> Dean <strong>of</strong> Student Affairs or Disability Coordinator.<br />
Appropriate documentation includes medical or psychological<br />
evaluations not more than 3 years old that contain intellectual<br />
and achievement scores, strengths and weaknesses related<br />
to <strong>the</strong> classroom performance, and recommendations<br />
for academic accommodations. All costs associated with<br />
obtaining appropriate documentation are <strong>the</strong> responsibility <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> student.<br />
• Request accommodations prior to <strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> each<br />
semester.<br />
• Deliver accommodation forms and discuss <strong>the</strong> appropriate<br />
accommodations with each instructor at <strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
semester.<br />
Financial Aid and o<strong>the</strong>r admissions responsibilities are <strong>the</strong><br />
responsibility <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> student.<br />
Tutoring Services<br />
The <strong>College</strong> provides tutoring to students at Oconee Fall Line<br />
<strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> primarily in <strong>the</strong> areas <strong>of</strong> math, reading, and<br />
writing, but students may also request tutoring in a variety <strong>of</strong><br />
o<strong>the</strong>r classes included in <strong>the</strong>ir programs <strong>of</strong> study. Tutorial Labs<br />
are located on <strong>the</strong> North and South Campuses, Little Ocmulgee<br />
Center, and <strong>the</strong> Jefferson County Center. PLATO, a computer<br />
assisted tutorial program with <strong>the</strong> capability to track student<br />
progress, <strong>of</strong>fers tutorials in <strong>the</strong> areas <strong>of</strong> math, reading, and<br />
writing. The workstations also have Internet access, which<br />
enables learners to use various online learning resources with<br />
<strong>the</strong> guidance <strong>of</strong> an Oconee Fall Line <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> tutor. The<br />
Tutorial Services sch<strong>edu</strong>les are posted each semester at all sites.<br />
Special Populations<br />
Oconee Fall Line <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong>’s Special Populations<br />
Coordinators identify and provide support services to eliminate<br />
barriers to those students who have self-disclosed as a member<br />
<strong>of</strong> a special populations group. These groups include:<br />
• Individuals with disabilities;<br />
• Individuals from economically disadvantaged families,<br />
including foster children;<br />
• Individuals preparing for non-traditional fields;<br />
• Single parents, including single pregnant women;<br />
• Displaced homemakers; and<br />
• Individuals with limited English pr<strong>of</strong>iciency.<br />
Workshops are <strong>of</strong>fered to <strong>the</strong>se groups in areas such as goal<br />
setting, career counseling, job search/retention, financial<br />
management, and time management. The Coordinators work<br />
with faculty in providing support services to students in <strong>the</strong>se<br />
groups who are experiencing academic difficulties. The Special<br />
Populations Coordinators work with special populations students<br />
and organize meetings and activities.<br />

Assessment Center<br />
Oconee Fall Line <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> maintains an Assessment<br />
Center that <strong>of</strong>fers assessment and testing services during both<br />
day and evening hours. The Assessment Specialist administers<br />
COMPASS testing to applicants for placement purposes and to<br />
students needing required scores for course completion.<br />
Free career assessments are available in <strong>the</strong> Assessment Center<br />
utilizing Career Scope, an automated aptitude test and interest<br />
inventory that details strengths and weaknesses combined with<br />
areas <strong>of</strong> interest to assist in giving logical career choices. The<br />
Assessment Specialist interprets a detailed pr<strong>of</strong>ile indicating<br />
possible job ideas that may be a good match for applicants and<br />
students still uncertain <strong>of</strong> a program area.<br />
The Assessment Specialist works with area employers and<br />
workers in administering <strong>the</strong> WorkKeys assessment that provides<br />
information about workplace skill levels on <strong>the</strong> North Campus.<br />
The WorkKeys Assessment is <strong>of</strong>fered through Business and<br />
Industry Services on <strong>the</strong> South Campus. Third party tests are also<br />
available in <strong>the</strong> assessment centers.<br />

Student Records<br />
Family Educational Rights and<br />
Privacy Act Notification <strong>of</strong> Students<br />
Annually, Oconee Fall Line <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> shall inform its<br />
students about <strong>the</strong> Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act <strong>of</strong><br />
1974. This Act was designed to protect <strong>the</strong> privacy <strong>of</strong> <strong>edu</strong>cational<br />
records, and to establish <strong>the</strong> right <strong>of</strong> students to inspect and<br />
review <strong>the</strong>ir non-privileged <strong>edu</strong>cational records. The Act also<br />
provides guidelines for <strong>the</strong> correction <strong>of</strong> inaccurate or misleading<br />
data through informal and formal hearings. Students have <strong>the</strong><br />
right to file complaints with <strong>the</strong> Family Policy Compliance Office,<br />
U.S. Department <strong>of</strong> Education, concerning alleged failures by<br />
<strong>the</strong> institution to comply with <strong>the</strong> Act. Oconee Fall Line <strong>Technical</strong><br />
<strong>College</strong> shall also provide a mechanism whereby students may<br />
file informal complaints within <strong>the</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />
This policy applies to students who are or who have formerly<br />
been enrolled at Oconee Fall Line <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong>.
