credential..<br />

Provisional Program Status<br />

For most programs, provisional admission to a diploma or<br />

certificate program is granted to qualified students who do not<br />

meet <strong>the</strong> regular placement test scores in English, reading, and/<br />

or math. Students who are admitted provisionally to a degree<br />

program must take <strong>the</strong> required learning support classes at<br />

<strong>the</strong> credit level. Students may take some occupational courses<br />

while remediating through <strong>the</strong> Adult Education department. All<br />

students initially admitted on a provisional basis must meet<br />

regular admission requirements for that program prior to<br />

graduation from that program.<br />

Learning Support Status<br />

Applicants who score below <strong>the</strong> provisional cut scores in<br />

writing, math and reading are granted learning support status<br />

(095, 096) and are referred to Adult Education. Students with<br />

Learning Support status may not take occupational courses<br />

until achieving Provisional status. Students with this status are<br />

not eligible for Federal financial aid (i.e., Pell, SEOG, or Federal<br />

Work Study).<br />

Criminal Background Checks<br />

Applicants to most programs at Oconee Fall Line <strong>Technical</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> are admitted to <strong>the</strong> program on a first-applied, firstqualified<br />

basis. However, before entering certain internship,<br />

practicum or clinical settings, students must obtain a criminal<br />

background check. Class instructors will inform students<br />

when <strong>the</strong>y begin <strong>the</strong> criminal background check process. If<br />

<strong>the</strong> background check is not satisfactory, students will have to<br />

withdraw from <strong>the</strong> class<br />

Health Screenings and<br />

Vaccinations<br />

All students must have a physical examination by a licensed<br />

practicing physician prior to participation in clinical activities<br />

for <strong>the</strong>ir chosen specialization in <strong>the</strong> allied health department.<br />

Also, a visual and hearing screening performed by a health<br />

department is required. Separate documentation will be required<br />

for Hepatitis B vaccination series, or pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> seroconversion<br />

after <strong>the</strong> Hepatitis B vaccination series, RPR, and TB testing<br />

or chest x-ray. Pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> immunity to varicella and MMR is also<br />

required. A student who refuses <strong>the</strong> Hepatitis B vaccination<br />

series must sign a declination form. Students who refuse <strong>the</strong><br />

Hepatitis B immunizations should also be aware <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> risk <strong>of</strong><br />

Hepatitis B in <strong>the</strong> health care field, and understand that <strong>the</strong>y<br />

practice at <strong>the</strong>ir own risk. The student will incur <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se<br />

proc<strong>edu</strong>res.<br />

Special Admissions Programs<br />

Several programs at Oconee Fall Line <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> have<br />

additional program admissions requirements prior to acceptance<br />

into <strong>the</strong> program or prior to continuation in <strong>the</strong> program <strong>of</strong> study.<br />

ALLIED HEALTH Programs<br />

To meet <strong>the</strong> ever-expanding demand for qualified allied health<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essionals, <strong>OFTC</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers a wide array <strong>of</strong> degree, diploma and<br />

technical certificates <strong>of</strong> credit programs in allied health. These<br />

programs provide classroom instruction, laboratory experience,<br />

and clinical practice to assure that students obtain <strong>the</strong> most<br />

current and <strong>the</strong> highest-level skills in <strong>the</strong>ir chosen health<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>ession.<br />

Students interested in allied health programs may obtain<br />

admission requirements information from <strong>the</strong> Admissions Office.<br />

Additional information about <strong>the</strong> sequence <strong>of</strong> course <strong>of</strong>ferings<br />

and program costs also is available.<br />

General Information<br />

Prior to beginning clinical training, or enrolling in courses requiring<br />

personal protective equipment, students must have completed<br />

a current physical exam. Medical pr<strong>of</strong>essional liability insurance<br />

also is required. Students also must purchase program specific<br />

uniforms and provide documentation for satisfactorily passing<br />

a criminal background investigation, a negative drug test, and<br />

vaccinations including Hepatitis B, seasonal flu vaccine, and<br />

tuberculosis testing prior to beginning <strong>the</strong>ir laboratory practice<br />

and clinical training. Hepatitis B vaccination requirement may<br />

be waived by signing a form designed for that purpose. These<br />

expenses are <strong>the</strong> responsibility <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> student. The physical exam<br />

form and pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> vaccinations are submitted to <strong>the</strong> program<br />

instructor. The drug screen is arranged by <strong>the</strong> Academic Affairs<br />

Office. Students will be provided with information about ordering<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir criminal background investigations. The criminal background<br />

investigation must be provided through <strong>the</strong> <strong>OFTC</strong> recommended<br />

provider.<br />

In allied health programs, students are required to purchase<br />

approved uniforms, and in some, purchase <strong>of</strong> laboratory supplies<br />

and materials is required.<br />

Students will be assigned to <strong>of</strong>f-campus clinical sites and must<br />

have reliable transportation and be able to complete clinical during<br />

non-traditional hours. Clinical sites may vary depending on <strong>the</strong><br />

number <strong>of</strong> students and availability <strong>of</strong> sites. Clinical rotation may<br />

involve travel to distant sites to meet necessary requirements.<br />

Students must comply with all standards and policies set forth by<br />

<strong>the</strong> clinical sites throughout <strong>the</strong>ir clinical rotation.<br />

Regardless <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> student’s grade point average, <strong>the</strong> student will<br />

be academically dismissed if <strong>the</strong> grade for any required program<br />

course is “D” or lower.<br />

Special Note: Conviction <strong>of</strong> a felony or misdemeanor could make<br />

a student ineligible to complete program clinical requirements<br />

or take <strong>the</strong> licensing exam(s) required by <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>ession upon<br />

graduation. Early notification to <strong>the</strong> faculty program advisor is<br />

required. Faculty advisors will provide information about this<br />

proc<strong>edu</strong>re.
