Move on When Ready<br />

Move on When Ready (MOWR) provides opportunities for high<br />

school juniors and seniors to enroll full-time in postsecondary<br />

institutions to earn both high school and college credits<br />

simultaneously. Funding for MOWR is provided through <strong>the</strong> high<br />

school full-time equivalent (FTE) program count.<br />

Students are eligible to participate in MOWR if <strong>the</strong>y are entering<br />

11th or 12th grade, as determined by <strong>the</strong> secondary system, and<br />

spent <strong>the</strong> prior school year in attendance at a public high school<br />

in Georgia. Participating students must have been enrolled for<br />

funding purposes during <strong>the</strong> preceding October and March fulltime<br />

equivalent (FTE) program counts. Students who meet <strong>the</strong>se<br />

qualifications can apply to eligible institutions for admission.<br />

Students seeking to enroll under MOWR must meet admission<br />

requirements as set by <strong>OFTC</strong>. Once admitted, <strong>the</strong> participating<br />

student will take all coursework at or through <strong>OFTC</strong>.<br />

Once admitted to <strong>OFTC</strong>, <strong>the</strong> participating MOWR student will take<br />

all coursework at or through <strong>OFTC</strong> approved by <strong>the</strong> Georgia State<br />

Board <strong>of</strong> Education. Courses may be taken during <strong>the</strong> traditional<br />

public school day or beyond <strong>the</strong> regular hours. MOWR courses<br />

must be selected from <strong>the</strong> Accel, Dual Enrollment Matrix or<br />

GaDOE List <strong>of</strong> State-Funded 9-12 Course lists.<br />

Move on When Ready students must meet all state assessment<br />

requirements, including End <strong>of</strong> Course Tests and <strong>the</strong> Georgia<br />

High School Graduation Tests, as referenced in State Board<br />

<strong>of</strong> Education Rule 160-3-1-.07 Testing Programs Student<br />

Assessment.<br />

Assessment<br />

The ability <strong>of</strong> a student to succeed in a program at Oconee<br />

Fall Line <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> is greatly determined by <strong>the</strong> math<br />

and language skills possessed by that student. The <strong>Technical</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> System <strong>of</strong> Georgia is committed to assisting each student<br />

achieve his/her maximum potential. All students applying for<br />

degree, diploma, and certificate programs must be assessed<br />

prior to acceptance to a program <strong>of</strong> study at a technical college.<br />

Students will <strong>the</strong>n be admitted in accordance with <strong>the</strong> academic<br />

standards applicable to that program.<br />

<strong>OFTC</strong> utilizes COMPASS or ASSET, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

System <strong>of</strong> Georgia (TCSG)-approved assessment instruments,<br />

when evaluating students for program readiness. However, in <strong>the</strong><br />

place <strong>of</strong> COMPASS or ASSET, <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong>s may accept<br />

a student’s <strong>of</strong>ficial entrance score on a validated assessment<br />

instrument (such as SAT or ACT) if <strong>the</strong> scores meet <strong>the</strong> college<br />

program’s required minimums. Students with a score <strong>of</strong> 235<br />

which indicated Advanced Pr<strong>of</strong>iciency or Honors Level on <strong>the</strong><br />

English/Language Arts portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Georgia High School<br />

Graduation Test may be exempt from placement testing in reading<br />

and writing only for technical certificates <strong>of</strong> credit and diploma<br />

programs <strong>of</strong> study. If a student’s SAT, ACT, or Georgia High<br />

School Graduation Test in English/Language Arts scores do not<br />

meet <strong>the</strong> college’s program minimums for regular admission,<br />

a student must be assessed using one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> TCSG-approved<br />

instruments. Assessment results will be valid for placement<br />

purposes for a period <strong>of</strong> 60 months and are transferable to any<br />

TCSG college.<br />

Official transcripts from a regionally or nationally accredited<br />

postsecondary institution recognized by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Unit</strong>ed States<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Education documenting equivalent programlevel<br />

English and math coursework successfully completed (C<br />

or better) may be used in lieu <strong>of</strong> completing <strong>the</strong> corresponding<br />

portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> TCSG-approved assessment instrument.<br />

Retests<br />

State-approved assessment instruments are valid for placement<br />

purposes for 5 years/60 months, unless students have<br />

successfully completed college level English and Math classes.<br />

If a student elects to test on <strong>the</strong> ASSET/COMPASS, <strong>the</strong>n those<br />

scores will stand, and <strong>the</strong> students forfeit eligibility to use <strong>College</strong><br />

Credit for placement purposes. All students may retest after<br />

remediation through various options.<br />

Additionally, students who are being readmitted to <strong>the</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

after taking <strong>the</strong> exam in high school for <strong>the</strong> dual enrollment<br />

program will be given <strong>the</strong> opportunity to retest. Students will have<br />

to take all parts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> test. There is not an option to take certain<br />

sections over again. If <strong>the</strong> student elects to retest, <strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> new<br />

scores will be used<br />

Transfer Student Admission<br />

Requirements<br />

Applicants to Oconee Fall Line <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> who have<br />

been previously enrolled at a postsecondary institution will be<br />

considered for admissions under <strong>the</strong> following policies:<br />

Applicants who are in good standing at <strong>the</strong>ir previous institution<br />

may be accepted in good standing.<br />

• Applicants who are on academic probation or have a<br />

cumulative GPA under 2.0 at <strong>the</strong>ir previous institution may<br />

be accepted on transfer probation. Applicants who are on<br />

academic suspension at <strong>the</strong>ir previous institution must<br />

wait a minimum <strong>of</strong> one semester to enter Oconee Fall Line<br />

<strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Applicants in this status will be accepted<br />

on academic probation after one semester.<br />

• Applicants who wish to transfer to Oconee Fall Line <strong>Technical</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> must meet <strong>the</strong> entrance requirements and follow <strong>the</strong><br />

admissions proc<strong>edu</strong>res listed in <strong>the</strong> above sections.<br />

• Applicants must have college transcripts sent to <strong>the</strong><br />

Admissions Office before registration.<br />

• The Director <strong>of</strong> Admissions will make a determination <strong>of</strong><br />

placement based on <strong>College</strong> Math and English credits. A<br />

grade <strong>of</strong> “C” or higher must be earned for <strong>the</strong> course and <strong>the</strong><br />

course must have <strong>the</strong> same number <strong>of</strong> credit hours or greater<br />

as <strong>the</strong> <strong>OFTC</strong> math or English course. NOTE: The Director<br />

<strong>of</strong> Admissions can use an un<strong>of</strong>ficial college transcript for<br />

placement purposes only. However, an <strong>of</strong>ficial transcript must<br />

be on file for <strong>the</strong> Registrar to post <strong>the</strong> credit to <strong>the</strong> <strong>OFTC</strong><br />

transcript. Exemption credit will not transfer.
