Move on When Ready
Move on When Ready (MOWR) provides opportunities for high
school juniors and seniors to enroll full-time in postsecondary
institutions to earn both high school and college credits
simultaneously. Funding for MOWR is provided through the high
school full-time equivalent (FTE) program count.
Students are eligible to participate in MOWR if they are entering
11th or 12th grade, as determined by the secondary system, and
spent the prior school year in attendance at a public high school
in Georgia. Participating students must have been enrolled for
funding purposes during the preceding October and March fulltime
equivalent (FTE) program counts. Students who meet these
qualifications can apply to eligible institutions for admission.
Students seeking to enroll under MOWR must meet admission
requirements as set by OFTC. Once admitted, the participating
student will take all coursework at or through OFTC.
Once admitted to OFTC, the participating MOWR student will take
all coursework at or through OFTC approved by the Georgia State
Board of Education. Courses may be taken during the traditional
public school day or beyond the regular hours. MOWR courses
must be selected from the Accel, Dual Enrollment Matrix or
GaDOE List of State-Funded 9-12 Course lists.
Move on When Ready students must meet all state assessment
requirements, including End of Course Tests and the Georgia
High School Graduation Tests, as referenced in State Board
of Education Rule 160-3-1-.07 Testing Programs Student
Assessment.
Assessment
The ability of a student to succeed in a program at Oconee
Fall Line Technical College is greatly determined by the math
and language skills possessed by that student. The Technical
College System of Georgia is committed to assisting each student
achieve his/her maximum potential. All students applying for
degree, diploma, and certificate programs must be assessed
prior to acceptance to a program of study at a technical college.
Students will then be admitted in accordance with the academic
standards applicable to that program.
OFTC utilizes COMPASS or ASSET, the Technical College
System of Georgia (TCSG)-approved assessment instruments,
when evaluating students for program readiness. However, in the
place of COMPASS or ASSET, Technical Colleges may accept
a student’s official entrance score on a validated assessment
instrument (such as SAT or ACT) if the scores meet the college
program’s required minimums. Students with a score of 235
which indicated Advanced Proficiency or Honors Level on the
English/Language Arts portion of the Georgia High School
Graduation Test may be exempt from placement testing in reading
and writing only for technical certificates of credit and diploma
programs of study. If a student’s SAT, ACT, or Georgia High
School Graduation Test in English/Language Arts scores do not
meet the college’s program minimums for regular admission,
a student must be assessed using one of the TCSG-approved
instruments. Assessment results will be valid for placement
purposes for a period of 60 months and are transferable to any
TCSG college.
Official transcripts from a regionally or nationally accredited
postsecondary institution recognized by the United States
Department of Education documenting equivalent programlevel
English and math coursework successfully completed (C
or better) may be used in lieu of completing the corresponding
portion of the TCSG-approved assessment instrument.
Retests
State-approved assessment instruments are valid for placement
purposes for 5 years/60 months, unless students have
successfully completed college level English and Math classes.
If a student elects to test on the ASSET/COMPASS, then those
scores will stand, and the students forfeit eligibility to use College
Credit for placement purposes. All students may retest after
remediation through various options.
Additionally, students who are being readmitted to the College
after taking the exam in high school for the dual enrollment
program will be given the opportunity to retest. Students will have
to take all parts of the test. There is not an option to take certain
sections over again. If the student elects to retest, then the new
scores will be used
