General Information<br />

Mission<br />

The mission <strong>of</strong> Oconee Fall Line <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong>, a unit <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> System <strong>of</strong> Georgia, is to contribute to <strong>the</strong><br />

economic and workforce development <strong>of</strong> east central Georgia<br />

through quality technical and continuing <strong>edu</strong>cation, adult<br />

<strong>edu</strong>cation, and business and industry services. The <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers<br />

associate degrees, diplomas, technical certificates <strong>of</strong> credit, and<br />

non-credit certificates in a student-centered learning environment<br />

through traditional and distance <strong>edu</strong>cation modes <strong>of</strong> delivery.<br />

Guarantee/Warranty<br />

Curriculum standards have been developed with direct<br />

involvement <strong>of</strong> business and industry. These standards serve<br />

as <strong>the</strong> industry-validated specifications for each occupational<br />

program. The TCSG guarantee to every one <strong>of</strong> our students is<br />

this:<br />

If one <strong>of</strong> our graduates <strong>edu</strong>cated under a standard program<br />

and his/her employer finds that <strong>the</strong> graduate is deficient in<br />

one or more competencies as defined in <strong>the</strong> standards, <strong>the</strong><br />

technical college will retrain <strong>the</strong> employee at no instructional<br />

cost to <strong>the</strong> employee or <strong>the</strong> employer.<br />

This guarantee is in effect for a period <strong>of</strong> two years after<br />

graduation. To inquire or file a claim under this warranty,<br />

instructors or employers may contact <strong>the</strong> Vice President for<br />

Academic/Student Affairs at 478-553-2068.<br />

A Brief History<br />

On September 4, 2010, <strong>the</strong> State Board <strong>of</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> and Adult<br />

Education (SBTAE) approved <strong>the</strong> merger <strong>of</strong> Heart <strong>of</strong> Georgia<br />

<strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> and Sandersville <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> to be<br />

effective July 1, 2011.<br />

A naming committee comprised <strong>of</strong> community leaders, faculty,<br />

staff, and students <strong>of</strong> both colleges chose 3 potential college<br />

names from a list <strong>of</strong> more than 700 submissions from <strong>the</strong><br />

community that were presented to <strong>the</strong> colleges’ boards <strong>of</strong><br />

directors in November. On December 2, 2010, <strong>the</strong> State Board<br />

voted to approve <strong>the</strong> new name chosen by <strong>the</strong> local boards for<br />

<strong>the</strong> combined college – Oconee Fall Line <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />

Oconee Fall Line <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> has six campuses – North<br />

Campus (Sandersville), South Campus (Dublin), Jefferson<br />

County Center (Louisville), Hancock County Center (Sparta),<br />

Little Ocmulgee Instructional Center (Helena), and Transportation<br />

Center (Sandersville). Two instructional centers include <strong>the</strong> Dodge<br />

County Instructional Center (Eastman) and <strong>the</strong> Jefferson County<br />

High School (Louisville). The <strong>College</strong> provides Adult Education<br />

services in each <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> eleven counties served by <strong>the</strong> college that<br />

include Bleckley, Dodge, Glascock, Hancock, Jefferson, Laurens,<br />

Telfair, Warren, Washington, Wheeler, and Wilkinson counties.<br />

Individually, HGTC and STC have long, meaningful histories and<br />

have demonstrated <strong>the</strong> importance <strong>of</strong> training and <strong>edu</strong>cational<br />

opportunities to <strong>the</strong> citizens <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> region.<br />

<strong>Handbook</strong>/Catalog<br />

The <strong>Handbook</strong> and Catalog are available online at <strong>the</strong> <strong>OFTC</strong> web<br />

Academic Year<br />

The semester system divides <strong>the</strong> year into fall and spring<br />

semesters, each with about 15 weeks <strong>of</strong> instruction in addition to<br />

a summer session with 10 weeks <strong>of</strong> instruction. Fall semesters<br />

will begin in late August and end in mid-December. Spring<br />

semesters will begin in early January and end in late April.<br />

Summer session will begin in May and end in late July or early<br />

August.<br />

Class Sch<strong>edu</strong>les<br />

A listing <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> classes to be taught each semester, including<br />

<strong>the</strong> days and times, is published prior to <strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> each<br />

semester. Class sch<strong>edu</strong>les are available online at www.<strong>OFTC</strong>.<br />

<strong>edu</strong>.<br />

Course Numbers<br />

Course designations consist <strong>of</strong> a four-letter prefix, a number,<br />

and <strong>the</strong> title <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> course. The four-letter prefix indicates <strong>the</strong><br />

subject. Courses numbered 1000 and above carry credit toward<br />

graduation. General Education courses carrying a course number<br />

1100 and above are degree-level courses.<br />

Prerequisites<br />

“Prerequisites” are required before enrolling in a course; <strong>the</strong>y will<br />

be identified immediately preceding <strong>the</strong> course description in <strong>the</strong><br />

catalog.<br />

Corequisites<br />

“Corequisites” are courses that must/may be taken at <strong>the</strong> same<br />

time and will be identified immediately preceding <strong>the</strong> course<br />

description.<br />

Course Sch<strong>edu</strong>le<br />

Not all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> courses in <strong>the</strong> catalog are taught each semester.<br />

Course sch<strong>edu</strong>les are published prior to each semester and show<br />

<strong>the</strong> courses that will be <strong>of</strong>fered. Courses <strong>of</strong>fered are subject to<br />

change. Oconee Fall Line <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> reserves <strong>the</strong> right to<br />

cancel any course for which <strong>the</strong>re is insufficient enrollment.<br />

Course Completion<br />

A grade <strong>of</strong> “C” or higher is required for successful completion <strong>of</strong><br />

all courses in <strong>the</strong> Oconee Fall Line <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> Catalog.
