Calculating System Parameters for UNIX and Linux<br />

to set RLIMIT_FSIZE while running; therefore, you must set the value to unlimited on your operating<br />

system before installation. <strong>Caché</strong> also sets the process soft limit to RLIMIT_FSIZE in its daemons to<br />

prevent I/O errors.<br />

Important:<br />

<strong>Caché</strong> will not install or start up if RLIMIT_FSIZE is not set to unlimited.<br />

See the operating system documentation for your platform for instructions on how to set the system<br />

hard limit for the maximum file size, RLIMIT_FSIZE.<br />

For the Tru64 UNIX supported releases, set the following kernel parameters to the size of all the shared<br />

memory to allocate (including space allocated for the buffer pool, routine buffers, and other data<br />

structures):<br />

• shm_max<br />

• per_proc_address_space<br />

• max_per_proc_address_space<br />

The following parameters are not implemented:<br />

• MSGMAX<br />

• MSGMNI<br />

• SEMMNI<br />

• SEMMNS<br />

• SEMMSL<br />

• SHMALL<br />
