Some Internet Service Providers filter mail from the Coast Community College District so please check your trash/spam folder if you don’t receive an email response within 2-3 days of submitting your application. You can avoid this by adding GWCAdmissions@cccd.edu and GWCAdmissions@gwc. cccd.edu to your Friendly Approved Senders list. This is especially important if you use providers such as AOL, Yahoo, Earthlink, MSN, Hotmail, G-mail or Roadrunner and/or you use spam filters. STEP 2 -ASSESSMENT/PLACEMENT TEST • Once you receive your STUDENT ID number schedule a testing appointment. • In person at the Assessment Center in Business Building Room 109 • Or call the Assessment Center at 714-895-8388 • A photo ID is REQUIRED to take your placement test and/or challenges. Please check www.goldenwestcollege.edu/assessment for office hours, sample tests, monthly testing schedule and challenge procedures. STEP 3 - ORIENTATION • Complete ONLINE orientation through your MYGWC website. • Orientation must be completed 24 hours before your registration appointment date and time. • For exemptions please visit www.goldenwestcollege.edu/admissions/exemptions.html STEP 4 - REGISTER FOR CLASSES • Register ONLINE at mygwc.com ON or AFTER your registration appointment date and time. • Go to MYGWC for your registration status. • The admissions office has computers available for use. (Please check hours of operation) • In PERSON registration begins the WEEK BEFORE THE SEMESTER STARTS. No appointment necessary. STEP 5 - PAY FOR FEES • Your registration will not be completed until you have paid your fees. • Please see the fee payment deadlines listed on page 61 • Payment methods: credit card, check, money order or cash STUDENT DEFINITIONS New Students Students who have never filed an application or enrolled in classes at GWC. Returning Students Students who have had a break in their attendance of one semester or more must reapply to the college online at www.goldenwestcollege.edu. Students should apply online early since registration appointments are assigned on a first applied, first issued basis. Continuing Students Continuing enrolled students from the Fall 2011 semester are not required to file an application in order to register for the Spring 2012 semester. International Students GWC values its diverse student population and encourages international students to seek admission. The college is authorized under Federal law to enroll nonimmigrant alien students. GWC provides an International Student Program whose staff is trained to assist international students throughout their studies. The program offers specialized academic counseling, expert regulatory guidance, homestay services and special student activities. Applicants outside the U.S. are strongly advised to apply three to four months ahead of the above deadlines to accommodate possible visa processing delays. Course Reference Numbers (CRN) Is a 5-digit reference number beginning with either a 4 (summer), 5 (fall) or 6 (spring) Add Authorization Code (AAC) A student will receive this four digit code from the instructor. This code allows the student to enroll in a closed course. All Add Authorization Codes have an “expiration” date and the student will need to enroll in the class before the code expires. Cancelled Class A cancelled class means that the college is unable to offer the class. The college reserves the right to cancel any class after the schedule goes to print. Closed Class A class closes when the maximum seat capacity has been reached. See closed classes and waitlists section, for additional information. Co-Requisites (concurrent Enrollment) When a class has a co-requisite, students must register for one or more (often a lecture and lab) classes concurrently. Knowing the information being presented in the concurrent course is deemed necessary for successful completion of either course. When dropping or withdrawing from a course that has a co-requisite, both courses must be dropped or withdrawn concurrently. Course Repetition A student may not register for a class in which a passing grade has previously been received or the maximum number of repetitions allowed has been completed. See “Course Repeatability Policy” in this class schedule for additional information. Duplicate Course Students may not register for two classes with the same course number and title. Holds Students must clear holds before registering. To check to see if you have any holds on your record, login to your MyGWC account. Click on the student tab, then click on “holds information” in the Other Resources box. Maximum Units/Hours A maximum unit load for any student during the fall or spring is 19 units per term or 9 units for the summer term. Petitioning Closed Classes Students may petition closed classes by attending the first meeting. If space permits, the instructor may issue an Add Authorization Code (AAC), allowing students to add the closed class online through MyGWC. Students are not officially registered until the class has been added online or through the Admissions office. PreRequisites When a course has a prerequisite, students must have specific knowledge to be successful in the course. The prerequisite can be a skill, a test score, or successful completion (grades of A, B, C, CR, or P have been earned) in a prior course. Student Class Program (web schedule bill) The Student Class Program (web schedule bill) is proof of enrollment in classes and fees paid for the term. Schedule/Bill receipts will NOT be mailed to you, but can be obtained on MyGWC. From the Student Tab, Go to Other Resources, click on Student Class Program (Web Schedule Bill). Your Schedule/Bill will open for you to print. Students should check the Schedule/ Bill receipts carefully to verify registration and fee payments. Program Restriction If you are less than 18 years of age and have not graduated from high school, have not received a high school equivalency, or you have previously had this status and it has not been cleared, you will receive a program restriction error message when enrolling. Special Admit Students Students who are enrolled in K-12 grades are Special Admit students. A Special Part-time Permission Form must be completed and submitted each term before Special Admit Students are permitted to register. All necessary forms and instructions are available at: www.goldenwestcollege.edu/admissions/k12.html Time Conflict Students are not permitted to register for two classes that are scheduled during the same or overlapping time periods. This includes online and/or hybrid courses with mandatory on-campus meetings that conflict with other on-campus courses. Admissions/Registration
