Re-Entry/Cal WORKs Center<br />

The Re-Entry/CalWORKs Center at <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>West</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

provides specialized support services for economically<br />

disadvantaged parent(s) who are receiving CalWORKs/TANF<br />

benefits. Services include individualized counseling, career<br />

assessment, transportation assistance, temporary child<br />

care, book bag and school supplies, free student success<br />

workshops, job development assistance, work-study or<br />

internship opportunities, and assistance in resume preparation<br />

and job interviewing skills. Through personal attention and<br />

motivation, the Re-Entry/CalWORKs staff is dedicated to<br />

providing assistance and support to ensure student success<br />

and job/career preparation to obtain meaningful employment.<br />

Student Activities Office<br />

The Student Activities Office is located on the second<br />

floor of the Student Center. The office provides a variety<br />

of services sponsored by the students and governing<br />

boards. Students can obtain information about campus life<br />

activities, student government, clubs, discount amusement<br />

park & movie tickets, locker rentals on-campus and<br />

much more.<br />

The Student Center is a state-of-the-art facility which includes<br />

food services, an internet café, game room and student lounge.<br />

Student Health Center<br />

Student Health Services (SHS) is a health clinic on campus<br />

that supports student success by promoting and maintaining<br />

student health. The SHS uses a holistic approach that<br />

incorporates physical, emotional and social needs. The SHS is<br />

<strong>10</strong>0% funded by the student health fee.<br />

Services include: Licensed professional staff: Medical Doctors,<br />

Registered Nurses, Clinical Psychologists; Private and<br />

confidential; Free or low cost services; Basic Medical care; Mental<br />

health counseling; Social services; Medications; Laboratory<br />

services; Women’s health/breast, pelvic and Pap exams and<br />

birth control; Pregnancy and STD testing; Health screening;<br />

TB testing, immunizations, and flu shots; Substance abuse<br />

counseling; Smoking cessation; Health education; Referral to<br />

campus and community health resources<br />

Location: Far south side of campus in the Nursing and Health<br />

Services building, next to the Edinger street parking lot. Health<br />

Center is on the ground floor. The entrance is in the breezeway<br />

on the west end of the building.<br />

Student Computer Center<br />

The Student Computer Center provides current <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>West</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> students a laboratory with high speed Internet access<br />

on computers (including Macintosh computers), color printing,<br />

scanning, Microsoft Office 2007, Digital Art’s software, and<br />

other course supported software to increase the probability of<br />

student success. Students must currently be earning units at<br />

<strong>Golden</strong> <strong>West</strong> <strong>College</strong> to enroll in this class.<br />

To use the Student Computer Center students must register for<br />

Learning Skills 922.<br />

Transfer Center<br />

The Transfer Center is dedicated to help students transfer<br />

successfully to a four-year university. We serve as a resource<br />

center for potential transfer student: providing a complete<br />

library of college and university catalogs, Transfer and testing<br />

applications, articulation information, individual appointments<br />

with a Transfer Counselor, workshops, fairs, university tours,<br />

individual university appointments, etc.<br />

Tutorial and Learning Center<br />

Academic support is available to all GWC students in the classes<br />

for which they are currently enrolled. The Center provides<br />

individual appointments, group tutorials, and drop-in tutoring<br />

in most subject areas. In addition, the Tutorial and Learning<br />

Center provides online tutoring sessions in some subject<br />

areas. Additional support services provided by the Tutorial and<br />

Learning Center include review sessions before major exams,<br />

interactive software programs, self-help pamphlets, and other<br />

subject area literature. To enroll for Tutoring (Learning G921 /<br />

G921N), go to the Tutorial and Learning Center.<br />

Veterans Resource Center<br />

GWC offers student veterans an on-campus point of contact for<br />

their veteran-related questions and needs. The resource center<br />

is a place to socialize with fellow Veterans and has space for<br />

studying.<br />

<strong>Golden</strong> <strong>West</strong> <strong>College</strong> is dedicated to providing veterans the<br />

support they need to make a seamless transition from their<br />

military service, to their personal commitment to themselves,<br />

their families, and their communities through a college<br />

education. We commit ourselves to helping veterans build a<br />
