General Information
Admissions/Registration
Cancelled Classes
All classes offered are based upon sufficient enrollment to
economically warrant them. Classes may be cancelled as a
result of low enrollment, State legislation and/or financial
considerations. When classes are cancelled due to low
enrollment, every attempt will be made to help students
adjust their academic schedules. Visit your MyGWC or
www.goldenwestcollege.edu for additional course availability
information. If Golden West College cancels a class, registration
fees for that class will be refunded. If you purchased a
parking decal, it must be returned within 2 weeks of the class
cancellation date.
Returned Checks
Any check returned unpaid (stop payment or insufficient
funds) does not constitute automatic withdrawal from class.
A check returned from the bank for any reason is subject to a
$25 service charge. A hold will be placed on student records
for any financial obligation until the obligation is cleared.
Attendance
It is very important that students attend the first class meeting
of every class in which they are registered, since a full period of
instruction will begin the first day of the semester. Instructors
may drop students who miss the first class meeting to make
room for students who wish to enroll.
Attendance at all class meetings is the student’s responsibility.
When students anticipate an absence, they should discuss it
with their instructors in advance. Students who are absent
because of extenuating circumstances should contact their
instructors as soon as possible. Being absent does not excuse
students from completing all course work. Students should
realize that absences may adversely affect their grades.
Regular attendance in class and laboratory sessions is
expected of every student and students must be punctual.
Instructors may drop students from a course or lower students’
grades when students incur excessive absences. Students are
responsible for dropping classes they are no longer attending.
Please see the college Withdrawal Policy
Course Repetition Policy
Students who are awarded a grade of “D”, “F”, “NC”, “NP” or “W”
may repeat the course one additional time at Golden West
College, Orange Coast College, or Coastline College without
special approval. A student who wishes to retake the equivalent
course at another accredited college outside the district must
obtain approval from the Counseling Department prior to
enrollment to verify equivalency. After two unsuccessful
attempts, the student will be blocked from further enrollment
in the course. In accordance with regulations, a student who
had two unsuccessful attempts may petition the college for
special consideration for an additional attempt. Contact the
Counseling Department for specific information on course
repetition.
Note: Currently, a change is pending regarding the State
and District Course Repetition Policy. Please check with
the Admissions & Records Office or Counseling for updated
information.
designated in the college catalog; however, they may not be
taken concurrently. These courses normally are:
fine arts, theater or dance
2. Physical education
5. Special classes which meet the needs of students
with documented disabilities may be repeated in
Education Code.
Refer to the course description in the college catalog for specific
limits on course repetition.
