of Ireland at Belfast, Ireland. In the same month of that same
year he was married to Mary Jane George of Beaver Falls.
The following month he began his work in the pastotate in
the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Geelong, Austtalia. There
he labored until 1903 when he accepted an appointment from the
American Synod to work in the Island of Cyprus. In sixteen years
of work there he established and built up the school for boys
known as the American Academy of Larnaca, Cyprus. He returned
to the United States in 1919 and attended Princeton Theological
Seminary where he received the degree of Bachelor of Divinity
in 1920. During that same year he was honored with the degree
of Doctor of Divinity from his Alma Mater, Geneva College.
He was called to the pastorate of the Second Reformed Presbyterian
Church of New York City in 1920, where he served until
his retirement in 1944. During this last pastorate he was Moderatot
of Synod in 1927. He was also active in many phases of the
Lord's work in addition to his pastoral duties. He was on the
Board of the American Bible Society, the American Tract Society
Board, and the Board of the Lord's Day Alliance. He worked
with the New York Mission for derelects, preached in Greek for
another Mission, and wrote many articles for the Covenanter
Witness, He was devoted to the cause of National Reform and
gave many lectures to further the aims of reform.
He moved to Santa Ana upon his retirement in 1944 where he
continued to be active. There he was a Bible Class teacher in
the Reformed Presbyterian Church. He also continued his interest
in the Reform Movement by organizing the California Christian
Citizen's Association, an affiliate of the National Reform Association.
He served as the organization's first president from 1945
until 1958 when he became President Emeritus. He gave many
lectures, and wrote many tracts and letters in the cause of the
association.
Dr. McCarroll was taken by the Lord on Wednesday, November
30, I960, after a brief illness followed by pneumonia and heart
failure. Mrs. McCarroll survived her beloved husband by six
months and died in May of 1961 of cancer. Of the four children
which God gave them, one daughter and two sons with many grandchildren
are left to follow in their steps. Dr. McCarroll will not
only be missed by the family and the Santa Ana congregation, but
by the whole Church, for he was a regular contributor of comments
for the Prayer Meeting Subjects which appeared in the Covenanter
Witness. Even in his advanced age he was always ready^ to write
or speak for the cause of the Lotd, especially as the Lord's cause
touched upon the subject of Refotm. To all of those who knew
him his prayers were a reflection of the Kingdom's work both as
to its extent and depth. His keen mind was alert to the end in
spite of the great pain which he endured. Truly can it be said
