LD+A in
2006
There’s some
breaking news
here at LD+A.
First,
pleased
we’re
to
report that the
2006 LD+A
Media Kit has
received a Silver Award in the 2005
All-Media contest sponsored by
Association Trends. Congratulations
go to associate art director Petra
Domingo, who designed the media
kit, and marketing manager Sue
Foley, who produced the content.
Second, as you’ve probably
noticed by now, this issue marks
the debut of the redesigned
LD+A magazine. Last fall, IESNA
commissioned an independent
Editorial Guidance Survey conducted
by The Wayman Group.
Thanks to all readers who
responded to the survey. The
survey addressed topics including
article content and length;
the number of articles published
in each issue; and the magazine’s
design/aesthetic appeal. We used
a 1-4 rating scale to force respondents
to commit to a positive or
negative rating, as opposed to a
ing a free RP-3 or DG-5 seminar
to members of local Planning and
Zoning Commissions.
Susquehanna Section (Harrisburg,
PA)–Presentation to the Pennsylvania
Association of School Board
Associate art director Petra Domingo
and art director Samuel Fontanez.
1-5 scale, whereby respondents
can “hedge” by choosing a three.
The results were quite positive
(75 percent say LD+A “strikes the
right balance” between technical
and non-technical content; 83
percent say feature stories are
“about the right length,” etc.).
The average design rating
was 3.2 (a solid B average) and
the overall satisfaction rating
was a rather robust 89 percent,
but only 31 percent gave us the
top mark of four, so there was
clearly room for improvement.
This redesign incorporates many
of your comments gleaned from
the reader survey. The original
design concept was developed
by our former art director
and then honed by our current
design team—Samuel Fontanez,
art director, and Petra Domingo,
associate art director
’Nuff said. A magazine redesign
is like a telling a joke. If you have to
explain it, then it doesn’t work.
Administrators on both the importance
and function of lighting educational
facilities and of lighting
education in school curriculums.
Toledo Section–Will build an
illuminated float and participate
in the Maumee Holiday Evening
Parade. The theme of the float will
be the IESNA and its Centennial
Celebration.
