In <strong>2010</strong> there were 16 inpatient facilities that reported having dedicated beds for addictive substance detoxification,<br />
with three in university hospitals, four in hospitals, and nine in psychiatric institutes. <strong>The</strong> largest number of<br />
detoxification units was in Prague 73 , and there were no detoxification units in the Karlovy Vary, Ústí nad Labem, and<br />
Pardubice regions. Patients undergoing detoxification were hospitalised in another 12 inpatient facilities, even though<br />
these facilities did not have specially designated beds for this type of treatment; these were mainly emergency care<br />
hospitals 74 . In sum, detoxification was carried out in 28 inpatient facilities in <strong>2010</strong> – four university hospitals, 14<br />
hospitals, and ten psychiatric hospitals. <strong>The</strong> only region where the detoxification of alcohol/drug-using patients was<br />
not carried out was the Karlovy Vary region; see Map 5-3 and Table 5-14.<br />
A total of 163 beds are designated to the detoxification of alcohol/drug-using patient in 16 detoxification units. <strong>The</strong><br />
largest number of beds (16) was in the detoxification units (male and female) at the Bohnice Psychiatric Institute in<br />
Prague, while the Military Hospital in Olomouc had 15 dedicated beds. Patients were hospitalised in 14 beds at the<br />
Havlíčkův Brod Psychiatric Hospital and at the Detoxification Centre for Children and Adolescents at the Hospital of<br />
the Sisters of Mercy of St Charles Borromeo. <strong>The</strong> lowest bed capacity (four beds) was reported by the detoxification<br />
unit at the Kroměříž Psychiatric Hospital (Nechanská, 2011f).<br />

obtained regarding designated beds in detoxification units as of 31 December <strong>2010</strong> and regarding patients who underwent detoxification<br />
in <strong>2010</strong> in detoxification units, as well as other departments and wards that did not have beds specially dedicated to detoxification.<br />
Information on the duration of the detoxification was also obtained.<br />

Detoxification was carried out in standard beds in various departments in inpatient facilities. In most cases these were psychiatric<br />
departments, juvenile psychiatric departments, or departments for treating alcohol/drug-using (AT) patients (nine facilities).<br />
Detoxification was carried out in the internal departments of two facilities, and one facility admitted patients to detoxification according to<br />
the current free bed capacity, mainly in the psychiatric departments but also in the internal and paediatrics departments.<br />
