Palandöken’de Kar Keyfi
Aslında Erzurum’un kış sporlarıyla turizme
açılması 20 seneyi buldu. Palandöken Kar
Sporları Merkezi 3271 metre rakımda 5
telesiyej, 1 teleski, 2 baby lift ve 1 gondola
sahip. Snowboard’cular için Türkiye’nin
ilk ‘half pipe’ ve ‘boarding cruise’ pistleri
de burada. Sadece Palandöken Kar Sporları
Merkezi’ne son senelerde 45 milyon TL’lik
bir yatırım yapıldı. Şu an Palandöken’de beş
otel bulunuyor. Bunlar arasında özellikle
Dedeman Palandöken pistlerin tam içinde
yer alıyor. Palandöken’in havaalanına çok
mevcut. Kulelerin en tepesine tırmanıp
bakınca Atatürk Üniversitesi’nin büyük ve
yeşil kampüsü görülüyor.
Erzurum Merkez
Dar sokaklarda oltu taşı atölyelerinin
arasından geçerek kısaca Taşhan diye
adlandırılan Rüstem Paşa bedestenine
varılıyor. Erzurum’a özel siyah renkte yarı
kıymetli oltu taşı fosilleşmiş reçinelerden
elde ediliyor. Özellikle gümüşle
birleştiğinde çok şık duruyor. Şehrin içi
tarihi binalar ile dolu: 1179’dan kalan Ulu
Cami ve 13 yüzyılda yapılmış yanındaki
Çifte Minareli Medrese, Selçuklu taş
işlemeleri ile bezenmiş iki büyüleyici
yapı. Şehrin ana caddesi Cumhuriyet
caddesinden (halk arasında mecburiyet
caddesi deniyor) Saat Kulesi’nin de
bulunduğu yöne doğru ilerleyin. Oltu
taşı atölyeleri ve eski evlerin içine de
Skiing at Palandöken
It’s been 20 years since Erzurum welcomed
its first tourists for winter sports. Palandöken
Snow Sports Center, located at an altitude
of 3271 meters boasts 5 chairlifts, one ski
lift, two baby lifts and a gondola. Turkey’s
first half pipe and boarding cruise slopes for
snowboarding were also built here. Investment
in Palandöken Snow Sports Center in the past
few years has reached 45 million Turkish
Lira. The resort currently has five hotels.
Among those, the Dedeman Palandöken is
located right on the slopes. Another great
advantage of Palandöken in terms of winter
tourism is its proximity to the airport; which
means visitors can hit the slopes within a
mere twenty minutes of leaving the airport.
Ski Jumping Towers
Turkey’s first jumping towers erected at
Kiremitliktepe in 2011, are the highest ski
jumping towers in Europe. They have no
equivalent in the Middle East or the Balkans
either. The structure, which is made up
of two towers that light up at night, two
jumping slopes and three training slopes, has
added a modern look to the city’s silhouette.
The structure also has a restaurant and a
guesthouse for visiting athletes. You can even
catch a glimpse of the lush campus at Atatürk
University from the very top of the towers.
Central Erzurum
Winding through the narrow streets, pass the
traditional black stone workshops, you reach
the Rüstem Pasha covered bazaar, also known
as Taşhan. Erzurum’s famous semi-precious
black stone is made out of fossilized resin and
looks absolutely beautiful when combined
with silver. The city is full to the brim with
historical buildings: the Ulu Cami Mosque
constructed in 1179 and the adjoining
Çifte Minareli Medrese (Madrasa With Two
Minarets) from the 13th century, are just two
fascinating examples of structures displaying
Seljuk stonework. As you walk down the main
boulevard, Cumhuriyet Street, towards the
Clock Tower, drop by the stone workshops
and historical houses before stopping at
Ulu Cami. The mosque’s wooden ‘dovetail’
ceilings, shaped like sparrow nests, serve
as natural air conditioning units and help
