produced in the following manner: One of Mrs. Burns's slates had a small piece of pencil
placed on it, then another slate was laid on the top. One end was held by Mr. Eglinton
and the other by Mrs. Burns, higher than the" table, and at some distance from it ; they
were, indeed, held up in the air, so that they could be seen in every direction. Thus
held, writing was heard going on between the slates. Then an interesting experiment was
