that <strong>the</strong> story told is, so far as Mr. Shedlock is concerned, not perfectly bond fide." And<br />
fur<strong>the</strong>r on he continues :— " Several correspondents express curiosity as to <strong>the</strong> conversation<br />
between <strong>the</strong> spirit medium <strong>and</strong> Miss Shedlock, <strong>and</strong> whe<strong>the</strong>r that lady gave any hint <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
questions likely to be asked by her bro<strong>the</strong>r. O<strong>the</strong>r correspondents narrate some surprising<br />
'manifestations' by Mr. <strong>Eglinton</strong> <strong>and</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs, but as none <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se deal with matters musical<br />
<strong>the</strong>y cannot be quoted."<br />
Mrs. Burns, <strong>the</strong> wife <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> editor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Medium, had ano<strong>the</strong>r experience with<br />

Mr. <strong>Eglinton</strong> in December. The following extracts from her report are clear <strong>and</strong> to<br />
<strong>the</strong> point :<br />
" On <strong>the</strong> first appointment, Mrs. Burns <strong>and</strong> ano<strong>the</strong>r member <strong>of</strong> our staff followed<br />
immediately after sitters who had left <strong>the</strong> medium in an exhausted condition. The<br />
experiments were not resorted to at once, but some considerable time was spent in easy<br />
conversation. The spirits indicated <strong>the</strong>ir presence on slates, taken by our representatives,<br />
when placed under <strong>the</strong> table. They had also provided ^<strong>the</strong>mselves with certain correspondence
