This third report presents the investment case for NTDs in the context of the post-2015 development
agenda of the United Nations; that is, in the context of the Millennium Development
Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals. This Chapter discusses the investments needed
to achieve the Roadmaps’ targets.
Introduction
The NTDs result from a variety of causative pathogens: viruses (dengue and rabies);
bacteria (Buruli ulcer, leprosy, trachoma and yaws); protozoa (Chagas disease, human
African trypanosomiasis and the leishmaniases); and helminths (taeniasis and (neuro)
cysticercosis), dracunculiasis, echinococcosis, foodborne trematodiases, lymphatic
filariasis, onchocerciasis, schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiases). This chapter
presents for selected NTDs the investment needed to achieve the Roadmap’s targets.
