coal from Daviess County in 2012 was $50.69 per ton. The<br />
average ash content <strong>for</strong> coal shipped from Daviess County<br />

highest mine productivity in the Commonwealth in 2012, just<br />
slightly less than its neighboring counties, productivity has<br />
fallen by 53 percent from its peak in 2001. Overall<br />
productivity was 3.81 tons per labor hour, while surface<br />
productivity averaged 4.02 tons per labor hour.<br />
Daviess County <strong>Coal</strong> Market<br />
The customer-base <strong>for</strong> Daviess County steam coal was located<br />
entirely in <strong>Kentucky</strong> in 2012. The Mill Creek Power Plant,<br />
operated by Louisville Gas & Electric, was the largest consumer<br />
of Daviess County coal, followed by the Elmer Smith<br />
(Owensboro Municipal Utilities) and Ghent Generating Stations.<br />
In all, six different power plants in <strong>Kentucky</strong> received<br />
a total of 1.5 million tons of steam coal mined in Daviess<br />
County during 2012.<br />
