Certificate (42–48 credits)<br />

To earn a certificate in any of the three areas listed for the associate<br />

degree—electrical apprenticeship, machinist apprenticeship,<br />

or plumbing apprenticeship—a student takes only those courses in<br />

the preceding section that have a check mark (✔), and takes no<br />

courses listed under “General Education Requirements” or “Related<br />

Requirements.”<br />

Electrical Lineworker Certificate Option (34 credits)<br />

The Electrical Lineworker Certificate Option has its own separate<br />

requirements that are listed here.<br />

NOTE: Students not possessing a commercial drivers license (CDL)<br />

will be required to take OEAT 130, Intro. to Transportation Industry<br />

(3 cr.), during the spring semester and OEAT 131, Class A CDL (6<br />

cr.), during the first summer session.<br />

This flexible program is available for those who wish to tailor an<br />

associate degree to their own specific needs. It allows students to<br />

include courses from a variety of program areas. Please note: A student<br />

who has previously earned an associate degree from DACC<br />

or from any other institution is ineligible to receive an associate in<br />

general studies degree.<br />

Requirements for the associate in general studies degree are as follows:<br />

1 Complete a total of 66 credit hours (excludes noncredit<br />

courses, such as those with an “N” suffix);<br />

2 Complete ENGL 111G with a C or better;<br />

3 Achieve a 2.0 cumulative GPA; and<br />

4 Complete the last 15 hours at any DACC center or NMSU<br />

campus. Credits gained through CLEP or ACT, challenge credit,<br />

and/or credit from another college/university or correspondence<br />

school may not be used to fulfill this 15-hour requirement.<br />

Under the SOCAD agreement, military personnel and their family<br />

members are exempt from the requirements described in item 4<br />

above.<br />

Associate of Arts<br />

The Associate of Arts degree allows students to complete many of the<br />

general education requirements for a bachelor’s degree at NMSU or<br />

other four-year institutions. It is recommended that students plan to<br />

take electives to meet the requirements for their planned baccalaureate<br />

degree, or specific requirements within the major, such as the<br />

foreign language requirement.<br />

Associate of Arts (66 credits)<br />

To complete the A.A. degree, 66 credits are required. The last 15<br />

credits must be completed at DACC, NMSU, or any campus of<br />

NMSU. A minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.0 is required<br />

for graduation. A maximum of nine credits in applied courses<br />

are accepted for electives.<br />
