Hydraulic system safety and basic principles of hydraulics, including<br />

Pneumatic safety, characteristics of gases and how they are compressed,<br />

Reading, interpretation, and revisions of industrial technical drawings<br />
common to manufacturing. Integration of engineering and related shop<br />

OEMN 116 Basic Machining<br />

Basic manufacturing processes. Familiarization with operation and<br />
maintenance of lathes, saws, drill presses, and milling machines. Prerequisite:<br />

OEMN 120 Painting and Finishing Techniques<br />

Types and application of paints and clear coatings. Use of fasteners,<br />
adhesives, caulks, and sealants.<br />
OEMN 130 Carpentry Repair Techniques<br />

Tool safety, use, and maintenance. Wood and related products, joinery,<br />
framing and blocking, jigs and fixtures, etc. Student will gain knowledge<br />
and skills for entry-level carpentry repair as a facilities maintenance<br />

Overview of fundamental design principles, as well as the design process<br />
itself, to facilitate communication between designers and installation<br />

OEMN 150 Landscape Irrigation Systems<br />

Covers the installation and repair of sprinkler and drip irrigation systems,<br />
with xeriscape (landscape water conservation) principles emphasized.<br />
Includes the study of fittings, piping, valves, backflow preventers, controllers,<br />
sprinklers and emitters, and automatic timing devices.<br />
OEMN 160 Landscape Construction Practices I 3 cr. (1+4P)<br />
Establishing a finished landscape from the printed plan. Includes elementary<br />
surveying and grade interpretation, blueprint reading, landscape<br />
layout, selection and use of tools and power equipment, hardscape<br />
construction, and the installation of irrigation systems, drainage<br />
systems and plant materials.<br />

Continuation of OEMN 160 with emphasis on advanced landscape construction<br />

Construction and repair of exterior walls, roofs, masonry, and signs.<br />

Basic practical electrical safety. Introduction to VOM, power generation,<br />
distribution and application. Ohm’s law with specific applications. DC,<br />
AC single phase and AC polyphase characteristics, power sources and<br />

Hands-on experience in electrical systems maintenance and repair. Use<br />
of V.O.M., electrical safety, codes and standards; motors, cable and wire<br />
types, and grounding. Prerequisite: OEAR 102 or consent of instructor.<br />
OEMN 220 Plumbing and Climate Systems Maintenance 4 cr. (3+2P)<br />
Covers selection, types, repair, and maintenance of heating and cooling<br />
systems, piping, ducting, valves, controls, swimming pools, and fountains.<br />
OEMN 221 Co-op Experience<br />
1-3 cr.<br />
Supervised cooperative work program. Student is employed in an approved<br />
facilities maintenance operation and supervised and rated by the<br />
employer and instructor. Student will meet in a weekly class. Prerequisite:<br />
consent of instructor. Graded S/U.<br />
OEMN 230 Facilities Maintenance Management<br />
4 cr.<br />
Study of ethics, codes, regulations, scheduling, policy, procedures and<br />
resume preparation. Employee supervision and effective communication<br />
techniques as related to facilities maintenance and landscape technologies.<br />
OEMN 240 Hazardous Materials Handling and Regulations 1 cr.<br />
Handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials. Emphasis will<br />
be placed on safe handling, respirators, body coverage protection, and<br />
exposure guidelines, as well as M.S.D.S. and other information-based<br />
systems for tracking and use/storage of toxic substances.<br />
OEMN 250 Mechanical Maintenance I<br />
3 cr. (2+2P)<br />
Introduction to bearings, installation, removal and troubleshooting bearings;<br />
installing couplings and coupling removal procedures; belt and<br />
chain drives; function and installation of mechanical seals, gaskets, and<br />
packing. Prerequisite: OEMN 105 or consent of instructor.<br />
OEMN 251 Mechanical Maintenance II<br />
3 cr. (2+2P)<br />
Installing dynamic and static seals; pumps; troubleshooting and repair of<br />
gearboxes. Prerequisite: OEMN 105 or consent of instructor.<br />
OEMN 252 Alignment<br />
3 cr. (2+2P)<br />
Conventional and reverse alignment; types of misalignment, aligning<br />
couplings using a straightedge and feeler gauge; adjusting face and OD<br />
alignment using a dial indicator; eliminating; coupling stress. Use of<br />
reverse dial indicator. Prerequisite: OEMN 105 or consent of instructor.<br />
OEMN 255 Special Problems in Facilities Maintenance 1-4 cr.<br />
Individualized study relative to special topics of interest within the program.<br />
Prerequisite: consent of instructor. May be repeated for a maximum<br />

Aspects of plant care from plant identification to scheduling fertilizer<br />

Continuation of OEMN 260 with emphasis on advanced landscape<br />

OEMN 280 Professional development and Leadership 1-3 cr.<br />
As members and/or officers of student professional organizations or students<br />
of building construction, facilities maintenance, and landscape<br />
technologies, students gain experience in leadership, team building, and<br />
community services. May be repeated for a maximum of 6 credits.<br />
OEMN 290 Special Topics in Facilities Maintenance 1-5 cr.<br />
Topics to be announced in the Schedule of Classes. Prerequisite: consent<br />

OENA—Occupational Education, Nurse Aide<br />
OENA 104 Certified Nursing Assistant Fundamentals<br />
4 cr. (3+3P) Theory and basic nursing care skills will be taught with<br />
an emphasis being placed on the psychosocial-cultural approach to<br />
patient care. OENA 105 must be completed to be eligible to take the<br />
certified Nursing Assistant Examination. Corequisites: CCDM 103 and<br />
CCDE 105, or consent of instructor.<br />
OENA 105 Certified Nursing Assistant Clinicals 4 cr. (3+3P)<br />
Extension of basic fundamentals of personal care, including theory, skills<br />
and clinical experience leading to the certified nursing assistant examination<br />
at the conclusion of the semester. Continuation of OENA 104.<br />
Prerequisite: C or better in OENA 104 or consent of instructor. Corequisites:<br />
CCDM 114N and CCDE 110N, or consent of instructor. Requires<br />
a C or better to pass.<br />
