An introduction to the principles of art history within a chronological<br />

framework of the art of the Western World. All media will be discussed.<br />

From prehistoric times to the fourteenth century.<br />

ASTR—Astronomy<br />

ASTR 110G Introduction to Astronomy<br />

4 cr. (3+3P)<br />

A survey of the universe. Observations, theories, and methods of modern<br />

astronomy. Topics include planets, stars and stellar systems, black holes<br />

and neutron stars, supernovas and gaseous nebulae, galaxies and quasars,<br />

and cosmology. Emphasis on physical principles involving gravity,<br />

light, and optics (telescopes). Generally non-mathematical. Laboratory<br />

involves use of the campus observatory and exercises designed to experimentally<br />

illustrate principles of astronomy.<br />

ASTR 210 The Search for Extraterrestrial Life<br />

3 cr.<br />

Recent discoveries concerning life within the Solar System are discussed<br />

and generalized to other star systems. Current space travel and interstellar<br />

communication efforts are reviewed.<br />

Designed to improve keyboarding speed and accuracy; introduce formats<br />

of letters, tables and reports. A speed and accuracy competency requirement<br />

must be met. Prerequisite: BOT 101 or consent of instructor.<br />

Training and application of the fundamentals of basic grammar, capitalization<br />

and sentence structure (syntax).<br />

Builds upon the concepts introduced in Medical Terminology providing<br />

greater understanding of how to properly use and apply medical terminology<br />

in various health fields. Emphasis will be on terminology used<br />

in medical records and procedures, medical coding, and medical transcription.<br />

Current medical practice, technological changes in medicine,<br />

creating medical documents, and pharmacology will also be covered.<br />

Prerequisites: OHEO 120 or NURS 150 or BOT 150.<br />

BOT 170 Office Communications in Spanish I<br />

Develop oral and written communications skills of native or near-native<br />

speakers of Spanish. The student will learn basic letter writing skills,<br />

customer service techniques, and telephone etiquette in Spanish. Prerequisite:<br />

BOT 101 or basic computer keyboarding skills and native or<br />

near-native Spanish-speaking ability.<br />

BOT 171 Office Communications in Spanish II<br />

3 cr.<br />

Develop oral and written communications skills of native or near-native<br />

speakers of Spanish. Emphasis placed on learning the office assistant’s<br />

role within the office environment. Compose complex business correspondence<br />

and learn to make international travel arrangements. Prerequisite:<br />

BOT 101 or BOT 170.<br />

BOT 202 Keyboarding Document Production<br />

Further development of keyboarding speed and accuracy. Production of<br />

complex letters, memos, tables, reports and business forms. A speed and<br />

accuracy competency requirement must be met. Prerequisites: BOT 102<br />
