Summary<br />

In all, county employees responding to the survey seemed satisfied with their own<br />

jobs, citing the excitement <strong>and</strong> challenge <strong>of</strong> the work place as well as the safety <strong>and</strong><br />

security <strong>of</strong> the work environment as positive factors. In addition, respondents felt that<br />

they had the authority, materials, supplies <strong>and</strong> equipment needed to do their jobs. On<br />

the other h<strong>and</strong>, most were dissatisfied with compensation <strong>and</strong> benefits as well as<br />

workload equity. In general, employees viewed staff morale as low.<br />

In addition, they were quite critical <strong>of</strong> managerial decision-making <strong>and</strong> county<br />

Commissioners Court performance. They felt that the decision-making process is neither<br />

efficient nor effective, <strong>and</strong> that their input is not valued.<br />

Employees also criticized the commissioners’ governance abilities <strong>and</strong> their<br />

weighing <strong>of</strong> public input. In addition, they dislike current staffing patterns.<br />

On a positive note, employees rated their supervisors’ accessibility <strong>and</strong> openness<br />

to feedback favorably, <strong>and</strong> noted that both employees <strong>and</strong> supervisors have adequate<br />

authority to do their jobs.<br />
