All day long people have been bringing horses<br />

and mares for us to look at, for we have given out<br />

that we wish to exchano;e Tamarisk for somethins^<br />

better, and a very interesting sight it has been.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Welled Ali <strong>the</strong>mselves are not remarkable for<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir horses, but we saw one very pretty grey horse,<br />

Seglawi Jedran <strong>of</strong> Ibn Nederi's breed, which had no<br />

defect but that <strong>of</strong> size. It was only fourteen hands.<br />

A Gomussa, however, came in later with a magnificent<br />

three-year-old, a Samhan c] Gomeaa, a bay<br />

with black points. This is <strong>the</strong> most powerful animal<br />

we have yet seen. He stands fifteen hands, and<br />

has tremendous forearms and quarters, though still
