Sheykh, Abd ul Mekhsin ibn Heniasdi, is considered<br />

<strong>the</strong> noblest in point <strong>of</strong> blood <strong>of</strong> any in<br />

<strong>the</strong> desert {Ibn Meziad <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Hesenneh only<br />

excepted).* <strong>The</strong>y are rich and powerful and<br />

4. Hesenneh. Once <strong>the</strong> leading tribe <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Anazeh,<br />

but destroyed by a combination against <strong>the</strong>m<br />

about sixty years ago <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sebaa and <strong>the</strong> Roala.<br />

<strong>The</strong> family <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir Sheykh, Faris ibn Meziad, is<br />

accounted <strong>the</strong> noblest in point <strong>of</strong> blood <strong>of</strong> any<br />

in <strong>the</strong> desert. <strong>The</strong> tribe now lives under Turkish<br />

protection near Damascus, and number perhaps 500<br />

5. Roala, or Jeldas. <strong>The</strong> most numerous, wealthiest,<br />

and most powerful tribe <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Anazeh. Though<br />

<strong>the</strong> whole tribe is generally known as<br />

<strong>the</strong> Rodla,<br />

this name only properly applies to a single section.<br />

<strong>The</strong> family <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir Sheykh, Sotamm ibn<br />

Shaalan, is <strong>the</strong> most important, tliough not <strong>the</strong><br />

most ancient, in <strong>the</strong> desert. In it <strong>the</strong> slieykhdom<br />
