We
vvere a week at Damascus, waiting for money to
•cany us liome, for we had spent nearly all we had,
and depended on the sale of our camels to make up
the sum required. Ferhan and ]\Iohammed between
them arranged this admiraljly, and we found ourselves,
in a few days, with a clear profit
of fifteen
shillings on each beast that wc had purchased at
Bagdad. Tamarisk, too, was disposed of with but
trifling loss, and the other three mares were left
with Mr. S. for embarkation later on for England.
The white donkey realised precisely the sum she
