<strong>The</strong> followiDg is a list <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Anazeh tribes in<br />

<strong>the</strong> geographical order <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir summer quarters from<br />

North to South.<br />

Anazeh <strong>Tribes</strong> <strong>of</strong> Nortiiem Arahia, all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m pure <strong>Bedouin</strong>s,<br />

owning camels and mares, and carrymg <strong>the</strong> lance.<br />

<strong>The</strong>y exact<br />

tribute from <strong>the</strong> small tribes west <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Euplirates, and are<br />

independent <strong>of</strong> Turkish authority. <strong>The</strong>y omti no supreme<br />

Sheykh, and are <strong>of</strong>ten at war mth each o<strong>the</strong>r. <strong>The</strong>ir range is<br />

from Aleppo in <strong>the</strong> north, to Jebel Shammar in <strong>the</strong> south.<br />

1. Feddan, <strong>the</strong> most warlike tribe <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> desert; a<br />

rough, nncivilized people, owning few camels<br />

and few breeding-mares, and depending for <strong>the</strong>se<br />

mainly upon plunder. <strong>The</strong>y are divided into<br />

<strong>the</strong> following sections, each under its own<br />

N. B.—<strong>The</strong>re arc two families <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fedaan, Ibn Sbeni<br />

and Abu Snun, who are rich, and possess many mares. <strong>The</strong>y<br />

take no part in <strong>the</strong> wars <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir tribe, paying instead a tax to<br />

<strong>the</strong> tribe.<br />

2. SeMa. Wealthy in camels and mares, <strong>of</strong> which<br />

last <strong>the</strong>y possess by far <strong>the</strong> best in Arabia. <strong>The</strong>y<br />

are a Avell-bred, courteous people ; hospitable and<br />

honest. <strong>The</strong>y fight only in self-defence. <strong>The</strong>y
