School beats the bullies with daffodil day
PRINCESS Diana anti–bullying
ambassadors at Waterloo Primary School
organised a Daffodil Day to spread their
message this week.
Last year the school signed up to the
national Princess Diana Anti–Bullying
initiative and now 19 have been trained to
deal with playground pests.
Pupils greeted parents and family
members with daffodils, provided by Tesco,
and a gift card of an anti–bullying pledge
poem that they had written to mark the
event and raise the profile of their work.
Parents praised both pupils and the school
for identifying how to deal with bullying.
Past initiatives include a balloon launch to
mark the start of their work and a Smile Day,
a Compliments Day and a Say Something
Great about a Mate Day.
Sarah Maciver, deputy headteacher, said:
“Their role is to support children in their
interaction and play at lunchtime and
throughout the school day.
“They offer advice and support in setting
up play opportunities and establishing
friendships and where necessary, seeking
adult assistance within the school.
“Our work of our ambassadors was
acknowledged and highly praised by Alex
Holmes, the programme manager.”

Council Tax
reminders
sent out

REMINDERS are being sent out to residents
who have yet to start paying their Council
Tax bill for 2013/14.
This financial year has witnessed new
Government changes to the Council Tax
benefits system. The current Council Tax
benefit scheme was abolished by the
Government and all councils in the country
had to replace it with their own local
proposal called the Council Tax Reduction
Scheme.
The new system started on April 1, and
affected more than 17,000 working age
residents in Sefton who receive Council Tax
benefit.
Sefton Council has recently issued annual
Council Tax bills for 2013/14 which gave all
Council Tax payers the ability to pay in
monthly instalments.
If residents are paying by direct debit they
will be paying on an agreed date set
between themselves and Sefton. However, if
anyone has not opted to pay by direct debit
and has not made a payment for April, it will
now be overdue. Residents can still apply to
pay by direct debit by contacting the
council.
Councillor Peter Dowd, leader of Sefton
Council, said: “An increased number of
people now have to pay Council Tax as a
result of the Government’s changes to
Council Tax benefit and the introduction of
a local Council Tax Reduction Scheme.
“It is important that payments are made by
the due date shown on your bill.
“Failure to make these payments impacts
on the council’s income.
