Sky’s the limit <strong>for</strong> Jamie!<br />

JAMIE Carragher is set to join the Sky Sports<br />

punditry team <strong>for</strong> the 2013/14 season.<br />

The 35–year–old, who will retire <strong>from</strong><br />

Liverpool Football Club at the end of the<br />

current campaign, will team up with <strong>for</strong>mer<br />

Anfield <strong>star</strong>s Jamie Redknapp and Graeme<br />

Souness, and <strong>for</strong>mer Manchester United<br />

full–back Gary Neville, to provide expert<br />

analysis as part of the broadcaster’s football<br />

coverage next season.<br />

Carragher, who grew up in Bootle but now<br />

lives in Blundellsands, has made more than<br />

730 appearances during his career at<br />

Liverpool, had been offered a number of<br />

punditry jobs when he retires.<br />

However, the <strong>for</strong>mer England defender said:<br />

“I watch Sky Sports all the time and I’m a huge<br />

fan. I can’t wait to be part of their coverage<br />

and work with the best in the business.<br />

“What Sky has done <strong>for</strong> football <strong>for</strong> over 20<br />

years is incredible and I’m thrilled to be part of<br />

their exciting plans <strong>for</strong> next season.<br />

A 22–YEAR–OLD man has been<br />

arrested following a double shooting<br />

in Bootle on Monday night (April 29)<br />

in what police are calling a ‘targeted<br />

attack.’<br />

He was arrested in Toxteth on<br />

suspicion of section 18 wounding<br />

following an incident during which<br />

two youths suffered gunshot wounds.<br />

Officers were called to the junction<br />

between Hanlon Avenue and Ainsdale<br />

Drive at about 8.35pm following<br />

reports that a shot had been fired.<br />

A 15–year–old youth <strong>from</strong> Bootle<br />

was treated in hospital and has since<br />

been discharged, while another<br />

15–year–old youth, also <strong>from</strong> Bootle,<br />

remains in hospital.<br />

Both teens suffered leg wounds<br />

believed to have been caused by<br />

shotgun pellets, but their injuries are<br />

not thought to be serious at this time.<br />

Chief Superintendent Nikki Holland,<br />

the Area Commander <strong>for</strong> Sefton,<br />

said:“This incident shows a complete<br />

disregard <strong>for</strong> local residents. While we<br />

believe that this was a targeted<br />

incident this was an extremely<br />

reckless act that could have had tragic<br />

consequences.<br />

A 16–month–old toddler<br />

suffered head injuries after he<br />

was attacked by the family dog.<br />

The incident occurred<br />

yesterday afternoon (Tuesday,<br />

April 23) at around 12.40pm on<br />

Salisbury Avenue, Bootle.<br />

The dog, a Staf<strong>for</strong>dshire bull<br />

terrier, has been signed over by<br />

the family to be humanely<br />

destroyed.<br />

However, because the dog is a<br />

RSCPA prosecutes<br />

women <strong>for</strong> neglect<br />

TWO women have been prosecuted by the<br />

RSPCA <strong>for</strong> neglect of two rottweilers.<br />

Audrey Halliday, 22, of Chester Avenue,<br />

Bootle pleaded guilty at Sefton Magistrates<br />

to causing unnecessary suffering to Mason,<br />

a male rottweiler, by failing to investigate<br />

the causes of its poor condition and weight<br />

loss which led to its death while in her care.<br />

Ruth Lee, 44, of Here<strong>for</strong>d Drive, Bootle<br />

pleaded guilty to failing to investigate the<br />

causes of the poor condition and weight loss<br />

of Sam, a female rottweiler, leading to its<br />

collapse and having to be put down.<br />

Mr Leeman, representing the pair, said<br />

there was a “lot of mitigation” due to the ill<br />

health of the women and that a<br />

pre–sentence report was required.<br />

The prosecution’s case and sentencing<br />

were adjourned until May 15.<br />
