Sky’s the limit for Jamie!
JAMIE Carragher is set to join the Sky Sports
punditry team for the 2013/14 season.
The 35–year–old, who will retire from
Liverpool Football Club at the end of the
current campaign, will team up with former
Anfield stars Jamie Redknapp and Graeme
Souness, and former Manchester United
full–back Gary Neville, to provide expert
analysis as part of the broadcaster’s football
coverage next season.
Carragher, who grew up in Bootle but now
lives in Blundellsands, has made more than
730 appearances during his career at
Liverpool, had been offered a number of
punditry jobs when he retires.
However, the former England defender said:
“I watch Sky Sports all the time and I’m a huge
fan. I can’t wait to be part of their coverage
and work with the best in the business.
“What Sky has done for football for over 20
years is incredible and I’m thrilled to be part of
their exciting plans for next season.

A 22–YEAR–OLD man has been
arrested following a double shooting
in Bootle on Monday night (April 29)
in what police are calling a ‘targeted
attack.’
He was arrested in Toxteth on
suspicion of section 18 wounding
following an incident during which
two youths suffered gunshot wounds.
Officers were called to the junction
between Hanlon Avenue and Ainsdale
Drive at about 8.35pm following
reports that a shot had been fired.
A 15–year–old youth from Bootle
was treated in hospital and has since
been discharged, while another
15–year–old youth, also from Bootle,
remains in hospital.
Both teens suffered leg wounds
believed to have been caused by
shotgun pellets, but their injuries are
not thought to be serious at this time.

incident is unknown, however
detectives are treating it as a targeted
attack and say they are working to
piece together the events of the
evening.

disregard for local residents. While we
believe that this was a targeted
incident this was an extremely
reckless act that could have had tragic
consequences.

A 16–month–old toddler
suffered head injuries after he
was attacked by the family dog.
The incident occurred
yesterday afternoon (Tuesday,
April 23) at around 12.40pm on
Salisbury Avenue, Bootle.
The dog, a Staffordshire bull
terrier, has been signed over by
the family to be humanely
destroyed.
However, because the dog is a

RSCPA prosecutes
women for neglect
TWO women have been prosecuted by the
RSPCA for neglect of two rottweilers.
Audrey Halliday, 22, of Chester Avenue,
Bootle pleaded guilty at Sefton Magistrates
to causing unnecessary suffering to Mason,
a male rottweiler, by failing to investigate
the causes of its poor condition and weight
loss which led to its death while in her care.
Ruth Lee, 44, of Hereford Drive, Bootle
pleaded guilty to failing to investigate the
causes of the poor condition and weight loss
of Sam, a female rottweiler, leading to its
collapse and having to be put down.
Mr Leeman, representing the pair, said
there was a “lot of mitigation” due to the ill
health of the women and that a
pre–sentence report was required.
The prosecution’s case and sentencing
were adjourned until May 15.
